Champion Inverter - no generator??

Walking thru Tractor Supply store and noticed a Champion 2000 watt on the shelf (black one) with hand written tag attached stating "inverter -no generator". It was out of the box. As best could tell is a inverter/generator as there was an exact one still in the box stating 2000 inverter-generator on the box. I have two 2000 ones that are yellow and stackable. I am not in the market for a new generator but question the tag stating inverter - no generator! It was priced at $449.99 on the tag and the one in the box was $499.99. I didn't ask anyone but got to thinking after leaving about the tag. Is it possible to work as an inverter but generator not be working??? Don't see how but not an expert on these things.

From what you describe, I don't think so. And, I don't think Champion makes an inverter only device.

Likely you know this, but a 2000 watt inverter (only) will be an electronics device that accepts voltage of one amount and safely converts that to a greater voltage. The most common is one that inputs 12 volts from the batteries and outputs 120 volts to run appliances. A device like that will be about the size of a hardcover book, such as these... https://www.amazon.com/2000-watt-inv...+watt+inverter

Champion is known for making gas engine powered generators. Many of those are also known as "inverters". In the case of the inverter/generator, the inverter label refers to circuitry that will regulate the output of the generator from fluctuating up and down with the load, to a steady "clean" output that is safer for the electronics in the coach.

Here is an example from the Champion website;
https://www.championpowerequipment.c...watt-inverter/
The title simply calls it a "2000 watt inverter", but the detailed description properly describes it as a "2000 watt inverter generator".

I do not know of any way that you could (or would want to) connect an inverter generator to a set of batteries and use it to invert the voltage to 120 volts.

I think the person who made the label is confused.

I just looked on the Champion web site. They don’t list an inverter only but they do list several 2000 watt inverter generators. It didn’t appear to be much difference in any of them except some were mostly black and some yellow.
