Looking to upgrade to Montana

I joined this forum because I am wanting to upgrade my Prime Time Crusader and the Montana line seems like the way to go. Seems like Keystone has a lot of QC problems that I have not experienced with Forest River.
Any comments?

I bought a new Montana HC and have had issues getting warranty work done. One of the 3 dealers that has done work sells both Keystone and Forest River and Their opinion was that both companies are about the same. If you buy make sure it is perfect in all respects before you pay all the money and drive it off of the lot. Outside of Thor who owns Keystone and Forest River there are not many options.

Welcome to the forum! The dealer is the most important thing some are good and many are terrible. One thing to remember, however is that the problems you see people having on this forum are real and the issues sometimes worrisome, when you look at the number of folks on the forum (check the members site) and the number of Montana's sold everyday you'll see the the real serious issues are rare and you find the same things on Forest River sites.

Agree. I bought a new 2015 3100rl and am about to complete the warranty period. My warranty repair experience was night and day - one terrible dealer/service center and one pretty good one. My trailer's repairs were relatively minor and my experience with Keystone was fine. Dealer/service center was definitely the key player.

I thought I picked a good dealer. For one major and a few very minor issues, Three warranty dealers later, my 2016 375 FL remains in the shop awaiting parts, it has spent over 1/2 the summer in the shop. So hope yours is not built by my build crew or your dealers are willing to spend their own money. I got no action until I was finally elevated to Keystone Owner Relations from their normal customer service.

Checkout the BBB in Goshen IL for Keystone and read the hundreds of complaints.

On this site the few that have had no issues try to diminish those that have had and are having issues.

As with any major purchase it is Buyer Beware.

Ddubya, welcome to the forum from sunny Colorado. We have had a few members that have had recurring issues. Much like the auto industry, the manufacturers want their dealers to handle issues. Unlike the auto industry, only your selling dealer is required to service your unit. We learned that fact the hard way after a move. As said earlier by Mike, pick your dealer wisely. Over 90% of owners would buy another Montana. We are on #3 due to lifestyle changes and have had very good service from our dealers. A combination of a good dealer, thorough PDI and follow through can help mitigate issues. When Members like Jim have an issue, anyone with a similar issue pipes in and it eventually gets fixed for everyone. When we joined in 2004, everyone had problems with the entertainment system from "Quest" and then the remote thermostat that was always off 10 degrees. What other brands don't have is the MOC. You can be certain that we will all be talking to Keystone at the September Rally in Goshen about some of these ongoing issues. As the saying goes "there but for the grace of God go I". Good luck and let us know how you decide.

We started with a Keystone Passport in 2011,. Upgraded to a Keystone Cougar TT. Now we are in a Keystone Montana. I would buy another Montana (or another Keystone product)in a heartbeat. Yeah...we have has some issues....dealer has handled or I just took care of them. Nothing major. I don't think I'm unusual in that regard.

Note: There are definitely differences in materials and quality between models. I can't speak to the High Country/lighter models but the Montana is night and day better than the Passport and Cougar lines. Adage applies: you get what you pay for in most cases.

That said....I could just as anyone here..have issues with my existing Montana or a new rig. Just saying you will see more issues on a forum than happy stories. IMHO...the good experiences far outnumber the bad. We rely on our dealers and Keystone to just "do the right thing".

We are on our 3rd Keystone, two Mountaineers and now a 2015 Montana. All have been great. Mine is used a lot I live in it 7 months a year. Tow it at least 3500 miles most years. Yes some problems but my local dealer is happy to do warranty work no matter where you buy the rig. Also it helps to be handy as most of the minor problems one can fix themselves. But for me the best thing about the Montana is the MOC. Great folks who are willing to help with any problem you may have.

Might want to look at the dealer ratings thread under repairs and service area to see what is listed. John
