I have a 2003 RV & Mobile home Parks in the Rio Grande Valley booklet that I just found while packing the rig. If anyone wants it let me know.

OK, the die is cast. We have a reservation at Bentsen Palm Village, (www.bentsenpalmvillage.com) near Mission TX from Jan 28 to Feb 28. We may expand that at either end depending when we leave and what we find when we get into Texas.

Seems to be a disproportionate number of Canadians heading for S. Texas (even Country Guy from MI is within spitting distance of Canada). Maybe it is something to do with the weather we all share. We will have to keep this thread going when we are all down there.

I was going to suggest this, so, now I will,

Some of the parks, have community rooms that can be used for no fee, (or a small fee ??). Last year we used one of those rooms to host a small gathering of Montana Owners from Victoria Palms. We did not do this till early March and many of the units had already pulled out (headed for Arizona or ??), but we still had 6 couples show up for the little gathering.

We all brought a little dish to share, like munchies, crackers and cheese, etc. Al also brought a map of the United States which we used to mark our home towns. That was fun!! (Now that we are International, we would need a map of Canada and the United States )

We had a nice evening, and we could do the same thing if the gang wants. Nothing fancy, no real big planning, just someone get a community room reserved, and post here the when and where facts.

Seeing that we cannot even leave here till January 12th, AT THE EARLIEST, and then not at all if Al's mom is ill, I probably would not be the best person to organize this, so, I have put out the idea, ya all can run with it!!

Most parks will allow visitors for such a function, so those in gated parks can still host such an affair.

Anyway, it is something that could be considered, of course, there are also a TON of restaurants, and MOC members could meet at one and enjoy that way too.

Carol, It seems like a reasonable idea to have a get together while we are all down south. We will probably be behind you getting there, but it is something that could be worked on when people get there. We have never been before, so we have no idea what it is like. I posted a list of who is going, and where they are staying, so far as is known at this point. I can update it by editing it if anyone wants to add to it.

The forecast here is for snow Sat., sure wish I were leaving sooner rather than later but the dye is cast. Mr. Gatti's in Mission is a restaurant that will give groups a room for just about anything and the price is right if you like pizza, pasta, and sweets!!! $10 a couple..and all you can eat. There are also a couple of descent small restaurants in Mexico which would be fun as a group!! We'll be arriving there around Jan. 1st and will pick up the thread at that point!!

Gatti's ....Been there, done that, will do again. We look forward to Gatti's as it the best pizza around.
We are pulling out this Friday, after we shut the house down. We will probably spend the night at the casino in Gananaoque so Ann can visit with her mother for a few hours. (She doesn't live at the casino.) LOL. Then we are off to Goshen for our appointment at the factory on Monday.

This message is directed mostly to any MOC members in Quebec and Ontario... What route have you decided to take to arrive to Mission Texas area...

I intend taking the 401 to the I-81 exit al the way to Knoxville TN, then I-75 to Chattanooga, I-59 to Birmingham, I-55 south to Baton Rouge, I-10 to Houston and texas Us 59 towards Victoria, then US-77 and US-83 into Mission...

This is certainly not the shortest route but it does avoid and of the route I-90 that goes along Lake Erie in the winter...

Have any of you have a better route please advise...

Will be leaving Jan 4th to arrive in Mission for Jan 15th to March 15th at Bentsen Palm Village

The only thing I would suggest is that you go thru Houston on a Sunday morning because of traffic. & If you have time drop down in New Orleans for a few days. Very interesting town.

OK, I'm sticking my nose in again and, to mix a metaphor, I also sticking my neck out again. I note so many of the folks traveling to "The Valley" manage to miss the best part of Texas. If you enter Texas at Beaumont on I-10, you not only have to go through Houston, you miss the rolling hills and pines of East Texas. If you enter at Texarkana on I-30 or at Waskom on I-20 you have several good routes on down to the Valley. No need for me to go into that, but if anyone is interested, I can evaluate some of our very good state highways, which I would certainly take if I were starting from here (between I30 on the North and I20 on the South.) I'm not making any suggestions, just speaking up for "my own, my native land."

I'm not familiar with east Texas highways but can vouch for the state highways in central and western parts of the state being excellent roads. We have towed some of those and will do so again.

Hi, We did the I-75 and I-59 parts last year, I don't recall any probems with that section. I agree with your plan to avoid I-90 south of Lake Erie. It always snows there!
We are planning to leave our trailer in Alabama while we return home over Chrismas until mid-January. We will drive back without a trailer, probably through Detroit to I-75/71/65, then head west from Alabama. I hear that part of I-10 is really rough, so we may be looking for another route. Have to do some map work.

That section of I 10 is HORRID and that is the best I can say about it.

When we left New Orleans heading west, we took a lot of side roads, and had the most enjoyable drive!! Much more smooth and scenic. Did not regret that at all. Looking at the map of Louisiana, I believe we took 90 south out of New Orleans, which will lead you over to Lafayette Louisana.

We stayed at Lake Charles for the weekend, at the state park, DO NOT let them give you site number 62 at that park! Took us 45 minutes to get into that site and we were so tight you could not believe it (see photo on the web site, under the Adventures of 2004, to see how close we really were!)

Anyway, 90 was a great drive and when we got back on I 10 it was not quite as rough. Still had to go slow and sometimes jump in the passing lane, but it was doable.

Thanks Carol and Padre David for your travel advice. We will take both of your comments into account.

Padre David, you are certainly not sticking your nose in, and if your neck is stuck out, we appreciate your doing so! You seem to be into traveling, so perhaps you could join us in "the valley" for a while too, even though you are real Texan, not just a winter one.

Texas will be completely new territory to us, so any advice is most welcome.
