Today is the day, Wish me Luck

The day has finally arrived. The rig is hooked up, ready to go to get it's rivets drilled out. Yes, it gets to go on a road trip to Camping World to get the step worked on.

I called yesterday to confirm and they said the parts were there. A small box of bolts that you can buy @ any ACE and a few washers and nuts.

I found a crack in the bar that the steps rest on when open, we'll see what CW thinks about the crack.

Jim

Ours is at the dealers for tank replacement and other 'Minor" repairs. Parts are "maybe " ordered. Dealer ordered them no verification from keystone yet.

Based on the forum input that the "kit" doesn't have lock nuts, I would in no way accept such a repair if I needed it. But to each his own or may the force be with you as sayings go. John

Or maybe once done, remove one of the nuts and head to the local hardware store and find some Nylock replacement nuts that won't vibrate off.

The box of parts contain 2 sets of bolts. It depends on if the rivet on the 2/3 step is stamped #96 or #55.

You get to use the bag that is marked either #96 or #55.

The bolts for the 2/3 step is a different size but all the nuts were "stover" nuts which have deformed threads which make them go on hard.

If the stover nuts were used, as they should be, there is no way for a nut to "fall" off. Just google stover nut.

They (CW) have one tech doing the recalls, he said he had done around 6 and had it down as what to do. See what rivet is in the step, get the right bag of bolts, drill out rivets, one at a time, install new bolts, plastic washers, etc and then paint the new bolts.

I feel he did a excellent job. Actual work time was around 30 minutes.

The bolts were grade 5, standard SAE. It does feel more solid after the recall. The crack, just watch it......

Jim
