Dave, thanks for the check list. I added the bedroom escape window latch as a seperate item. A friend with SOB somehow unlatched his and lost the window somewhere. $550.00 for a replacement window, ouch!

Grampachet,

Wow! Sure glad we didn't have that SOB rig. Ours was bad enough. It was $127 for the window. We installed ourselves. But don't forget to tie the window down. You don't want to have to do that more than once.

Granpachet,

A confession to make: That exact same thing about the bedroom escape window happened to me on our Montana. We think that when one of us pulled down the shade he or she accidentally hit the latch arm and released it. We knew nothing about it until the end of the day when we pulled into our space for the night. The window was shattered, glass missing.

The replacement window from Montana had a different latch--it opened UP instead of DOWN. That way, if one hit the latch by pulling downs the share it would only seat it more firmly. Good design improvement--just too late for us.

We have written check lists that we follow religiously. One for inside and one for outside.

Those latches can be reversed. Our 3485 had the bedroom window latch operated by lifting up and the window at the desk (same model) the opposite. I simply removed the screws and flipped the latch over.

The checklist is the perfect aid to use when you first start. We used a checklist (thanks padredw) for several setups, and then found that if everything was not properly stored and back in its original place, then we were missing something. The truck never moves until after the walk around.

As of today, we have setup 176 times, and taken down 175. We have had no mishaps so far using our method without the checklist.

Routine is the key for us.
