Screws in outside

I was trying to make a modification to the front gutter to help divert the rain and keep the black streaks off the sides. In order to do this I would need to use two small screws so I was looking for an answer if it is OK to put screws in the exterior. The factory does mount awning, lights and latches that way. Thanks for replies.
