Black tank "digesters"
Is there a time period at which tank digesters are not effective? Reason I ask is I go about a week most of the time before I drain and flush my black tank when parked. I fill and flush tank 3 or 4 times when I drain. When traveling I drain and run with empty tanks. I'm wondering if the "digesting" stops after 3 or 4 days and I should drain more often even though not full? Seems like I do not get a good dump like maybe a pyramid is occurring because digester is no longer effect. Or maybe I'm over worrying it!

I use Happy Camper and dump once every two weeks. Works for us.

Based on your weekly routine you described, you should not have any problems so long as you use proper paper and plenty of water. After dumping, I always add a couple of gallons of water.

We have been full timing for 6 1/2 years and all but one year has been in our current Montana. We NEVER use any "digesters" or any other tank additives and dump about every 10 days and flush the tank about every 4th dump and have never had a problem with pyramid or odor. WE USE PLENTY OF WATER EACH TIME THE TOILET IS USED AND ALSO ADD A COUPLE OF GALLONS AFTER DUMPING.

Same here, except we have been only full timing for about 3 years. and only use blue stuff in all the tanks when we leave the unit for a week or so. That way the blue stuff can help remove any grease, hair or build up in the tanks. and we use rv paper and lots of water. you cant use enough water when you flush.

DO NOT use the drop in packets. One got stuck in the black tank gate valve and did not allow the valve to fully close. Stinky mess and $$$ to have replaced. Not some thing I wanted to tackle myself.

Ride with a few gallons of water in the tank and let it slosh around during travel. It will knock a lot of solids loose.

We never let any tank get full as we do not trust the reliability of the tanks. We dump the black tank every 3 or 4 days and use plenty of water.

When I get home I fill the tank and let it set for a week or two then repeat at least once. I'm lucky I have a dumb station.
