Landing gear fuse
I have had my landing gear fuse blow several times now on my Mountaineer 344 RET. It is a 30 amp inline fuse from the battery. I can replace the fuse and it may work for the next 6 or 7 lifts or may blow right away. Any suggestions?

Looking at the gears, they are not a high tech gearbox. I would lube them good. Also be careful not to bottom the landing gear out. This has been an issue on lots of units. We've never blown a fuse though.

I would replace your switch. I found my switch was 20Amp and the contacts pitted. The problem is the replacement switch is also 20amp.
Good luck.

Had my 08 2955RL monty 2 years now. On my first trip out I blew the fuse on my landing gear 4 or 5 times. When I got home I checked the associated wiring and connectors. I had to recrimp some of the connectors also cleaned paint from where the connectors are bolted on. I have had no problems since then.

we had blown the the fuse once also. went to auto zone and changed the fuse to a 50 amp .no more problems .some say not to go with a higher rated fuse but i have not had a problem with going higher and it has been a year already.

I agree with Thor. My brand new Alpine kept on blowing the 30 amp in line fuse for the landing gear. I switched to a 40 amp fuse and no problems since.

Rotti, nearly any auto parts store will have a 30 amp auto resetting breaker that fits right where that fuse goes. Complete with the same spade connectors. It might still pop once in awhile but wait just a little bit and it will reset and you're in business again.
Or you could go with a 40 amp breaker although it's not a clean fit like the 30 amp breaker. Our Montana has the 40 amp fuse. Or did until the other day. The 40 amp auto reset breaker does not have the spade connectors and thus must be "hard wired." However, I just got a couple of 10 gauge male spade connectors that look like what the fuse had, a couple of 10 gauge ring connectors to fit to the breaker. And some 10 gauge wire to connect between spade connector and ring connector. I mounted the ring connector ends of the wires to the breaker then plugged the spade connectors into where the fuse used to connect. You can either connect directly into the fuse holder or just pull the wires out of the fuse holder and toss the holder. I then used electrical tape to insulate as needed.

Thank you all for your suggestions and ideas. I have checked and reconnected all electrical as well as took the gears apart to check the lube and it was well lubricated. Currently I have a 40 amp fuse in place of the 30. I will be looking into a 40 amp auto reset breaker.
Thanks again!
Enjoy the camp fire!!!!
