Old bulb seals on slideouts a gooey mess!

So I finally got my slide-outs working properly (thanks everyone), so now it's time to replace the bulb and wiper seals. It's strange, the old wiper seals have turned into a tar-like mush. I was working on removing some of them out at the storage yard and didn't have all of my stuff with me. Anyway, all I had out there was some spray silicon. As it turns out, the stuff works pretty good at removing the tar-e goop from the walls and slideout. I'm thinking that WD-40 might be good too.

I sound like someone used something on the slides they should not have if the seals are turning to mush! some kind of chemical that softened the rubber up.

On all our SOB campers, I have always used WD-40 to clean the goo off of the slides and windows. Some ole timers / rv techs called it “cat gut”? Stuff outta be outlawed. What a mess. Good luck.

Give yours a few more years and they will also turn to mush. Just the nature of the material they are made of, even without using anything on them. The more sunlight they are exposed to, the faster they will soften.

Totally agree with bob. Have had to replace parts on mine as the sun kills them. Just a part of "home" maintenance.

When we use the silicone slide lube purchased at Walmart to lube the seals and slide, it will also remove the goo if you scrub with it a little.
