Hello everyone ! First time user. Just logged on: We just purchased a 3400RL. looking for generator for boondocking. Thinking of 2-eu2000i hondas. what are your thoughts, suggestions ?

We camp in hot places. Arizona drylands.

If you do a search on this issue you'll find some informative threads. The general thought is that the 2 Hondas are a good way to go.

Hi we use 1 2000 honda. Just spent 2 weeks in Quartsite at first of February. As you know, thats boonieing

and we did fine-tv and everything we wanted. You dont need 2 unless you want air. Dan

We purchased the Yamaha 3000 SEB which works great with one air conditioner. We'll put it in the truck bed ahead of the hitch and run it from there. It's heavy but we shouldn't have to move it. We like the idea of not having two generators and a gas tank to move around.

If and when I procure a generator, it will be exactly what you are suggesting. I like being able to only run one if that is what is needed, but having the flexibility to hook the two of them together. Each of them is light enough to handle. My opinion, good choice.

We ordered our new trailer to be generator prep for propane. We will then have the Onan 5.5 (or something like that) installed. We are hoping to attend some Nascar races with the camper and will need the air. I know we will lose storage space and be lugging it everywhere we go... although we have on occasion lost power at campgrounds. Just have to be sure we keep an eye on the propane.

Hi,
I have the Onan, propane unit. It's sits in the front compartment and comes with it's own generator case. This unit even your neighbors will love, I think it one of the most quite generators around including the Honda. Very happy with ours.
I can run Air & TV with all the other lights and such, just no Microwave. If my wife wants to use the micro, we shut the air off for a couple minutes until she is done.

Glad to hear that ... Yes, they said it comes in a soundproof like case. Does it gobble propane? Does it go into a sleep-like mode when not using an appliance????

We also have the Yamaha 3000iSEB inverter generator. It's good for about 2800 watts continuous and 3500 watts for starting the big load like that 15K AC. With the auto throttle control it burns only the amount of fuel needed to get the immediate job done. Pretty slick! It is "very" quiet and fits nicely between my front tool box and the 5er hitch. BTW, it will also charge a 12V battery at the same time it provides AC power. Just the thing to top-off the TV or other external backup power source.

They have recently come down in price....running about $1900 in ads that I have seen.

We have a single Honda EU2000 and find that it does all we ask of it. You would need the secondunit if you wanted to run air conditioning.

I didn't mention about about the sleep mode, yes the Onan 2500 does have a sleep mode. This also charges your batteries while in operation. If were boondocking and using the generator, after everyone is ready for bed, and if we don't need the AC we shut her down and run off the batteries at night. No matter which way you go I would have it wired professionaly, (Licensed Electrician) that way if something goes wrong you have his stamp to prove it was wired correctly. I also installed a third battery (Lawn Mower size) that I use to start the generator, this also charges off the generator.

I purchased a Yamaha 2800ei before our four months trip to Alaska in 2002. I was and still am very pleased with the unit. I am only 5'1" and weight and size was a consideration. Getting it up into the bed of my Dodge 3500 was not a problem. It is very quiet and fuel efficient with it's sleep mode.My 3255RL has a 15,000 BTU a/c and the Yamaha handles it fine.Of course we can't use every electric appliance all at once. We turn the a/c to fan when using the micro wave,etc. I use my satellite dish.two receivers and tvs. This past year I even used it to power my fridge,freezer and tv during one hurricane.

I have the Honda EU300i since we boondock most of the time or stay in campgrounds without hookups. We can run the A/C and the microwave if necessary. I keep it in the bed of the truck in front of the hitch.

I have purchased 2 EU2000 and the parallel converter hook-up. I researched the prices and there is a company in Illinois that I ended up purchasing from on the Internet. No sales tax, no shipping charges. Approximately $400.00 cheaper than any Honda dealer outfit that I had prices quoted from. I had a EU3000, although a very nice unit, it was 147 lbs empty. The EU2000 is 46 lbs and allows me move them quite easily.

If you wish, I'll email the company. Ordered on a Sunday and was here by the following Thursday.

We run the Honda 3000eiu and have it mounted in the bed of the tow vehicle. Very handy for things other than camping that way. If you contact Mayberry at 1 800 696 1745 or www.mayberrys.com I beleive their present price is $1749 plus shipping. No sales tax unless you live in New Jersey. They are a reputable dealer and have been in business a long time. They also handle the new Yamaha quiet units this might also be a good choice.

And how do you secure the 3000 series generators in your truck bed? We're going to use our new Yamaha 3000 next week for the first time. What about a cover to keep it out of the elements?

We have a Onan LPG 3400 watt Genset. It works great. This is the third unit it has been in. We had a automatic switch installed so all we have to do is start it. It is a gas hog how ever. When we go hunting we carry a spare tank. We can't use our AC the way it is wired now but the technician showed me how to rewire it so we can. Can't run the dryer, or micro with the AC on as it is a 30 amp Generator. Hasn't been a problem yet.
