Help finding a wheel...
Hello everyone...
I need a little advice on where to find a wheel for my 2007 Keystone Montana. On our trip back from Colorado a week ago, I had apparently had some loose lug nuts and I lost a wheel about an hour north of Abilene. (Yes, I tightened them before I left Breckenridge but something went wrong not sure what...) Anyway, 4 lugnut studs were sheered off and the wheel was damaged severely. Thankfully, I believe that is the worst of it. The RV dealership in Abilene is having trouble finding a matching wheel and lugnuts for my Montana. Any suggestions on where to find one?
Thanks,
Chris

If they are still available these folks will help you: www.tredittire.com
They sold them to Keystone in the first place and many of us have bought replacement wheels, better wheels and better lug nuts from them at normally great prices.

They just replaced the rims on my 2007, had small crack in one. I was told they don't have that style any more. I would guess your are the same as mine.
I would give you one of the good ones, but they are requesting them back..

We had to replace all 4 wheels on our 2007 two years ago because each was cracked. The original wheel style was no longer available, but Treddit had several other styles to choose from, and we found one we liked just fine. Treddit is great to work with, too.

Post a picture of the wheel. I have three left of the four I took off my 09 rig when I upgraded to 614s. I think the ones I have are the TR6 model.

Just checked the photos of your rig, and the wheels I have look the same. Shipping from here to Austin would probably run about 38-50 dollars based on what it cost to send one UPS to PA a couple of months ago.

Back to the root cause, what ft/lbs did you torque the wheels to, and what did you use? I've always been concerned that I need to calibrate the torque wrenches and wonder if this is a concern. Only one wheel with this problem? Aren't you concerned about the others if you used the same wrench and procedure? There isn't much worse than that problem can get. Stems sheered off and axle damage? WOW!
Another thing, have you ever weighed the rig and could the weight for that wheel have been over the ratings, or much heavier than the rest?
Good luck finding a wheel. I've seen plenty of posts in the MOC on suppliers and solutions for that.

Well, I am not exactly sure. I have been RVing for almost 9 years now and never had this problem. Grew up on a farm and with lots of trailers and such and again - never encountered this. I used a Sears Craftsmen wrench and as I always do to the spec in the docs that came with the axles. I suspect that I missed a lugnut and that was the root cause. I was in a hurry the last time and that is probably my down fall. Luckily the axle is fine and even the hub is fine. The particular hub on my Mor Ryde axles have the ability to have the lugnuts knocked out and replaced. I am lucky that I was not traveling very fast when it happened and in the process of slowing down. The hub never touched the ground.
I did have to limp along for 45 miles to Abilene on one tire one the left side once we got it blocked up. I was praying the entire time while easing along at 25MPH. My Maxxis tires held up. PTL!! Could have been a lot worse.
After spending much time beating myself up and analyzing things, I believe the root cause is mostly carelessness on myself with some bad luck.
Oh as far as weights of my rig, I have not had it weighed but it is a stock rig just clothes and food in it. Nothing excessive at all. I seriously doubt I am over the weight limit but your suggestion is a good one. Thank you!

Thanks for the explanation. It sure sounds so much more reasonable than what my imagination was coming up with.

Just closing out this thread. A very big THANK YOU to Tim. He was very gracious and very helpful. Nothing more wonderful than help from a stranger - it re-affirms my faith in good people. It also goes to prove (again) how valuable this forum can be. Everyone here is always, nice, helpful, and respectful. Thank you!!! Maybe one day I can repay the favor by helping some out of jam.

Have an 08 and had a crack in one of mine. Treddit replaced it under warranty and sold me 3 others for a very reasonable price (original rim no longer available). Had no problem selling the other 3. One bought 2 to put one on his spare (just in case).
