Battery minder

The other day I read a MOC post on desulfurizing the battery. The person suggested a battery (minder) that was "12V 8A auto reverse pulse deep cycle battery charger". In my research I found a BatteryMinder Maintenance Charger-Desulfator that offers 8A, 4A & 2A. My question is WHY do I need 8Amp? I have 2Amp battery minder (with desulfator) on my AGM battery. How do I know if my 2A is desulfating the battery?

This morning I read on this forum that our (Progressive) Converter has Charge Wizard which desulferizes our batteries. Now I'm really confused!

Do I need an 8A charger-desulfator? Or is my 2A battery minder sufficient or do I need to remove the 2 Amp battery minder all together???

Thank you for any response. Marge

Your converter with the Charge Wizard is all you need. It will fully maintain your batteries.

I have the batteryminder with the 8/4/2 deally. I have had it bring back batteries which the built in coach charger couldn't keep charged/maintained. I've also had 2amp maintainers not keep coach batteries charged over the winter (if the batteries are not disconnected as example).

My preference is to disconnect the coach (don't have the coach pluged in) from the batteries and let the batteryminder keep the batteries maintained over the winter.

But results may vary

Thank you for clearing this up for me. The more I read, the more confused I get. My fear is to be hundreds of miles away from home and have something break.

You can't worry about something breaking. it will take all the fun out of RVing for you. You can't carry enough parts and tools with you to fix everything. Just make sure your batteries aren't more than 5 years old and when you replace them make sure you get them from a place that sells a lot of batteries. That way you can be sure to get a fresh one.
