Mystic "Things to do"

15 for the rally sounds like a nice size group. In advance of the rally I have been researching the area for points of interest. The area is an old seaport with significant history. A few of the things I have found interesting are:

Battleship Cove, Fall River, MA. http://battleshipcove.org/ On display are the USS MASSACHUSETTS BB59 battleship, USS JOSEPH P. KENNEDY, JR. DD850, destroyer, and the USS LIONFISH SS298, a Balao class submarine. Admission allows access to all three plus several smaller ships and the on site museum. There are also PT boats and multiple aircraft.

Valley Railroad, Essex, CT. http://essexsteamtrain.com/ This is a scenic railroad where tourists can ride the train (steam or diesel) and ride a stern wheeler steam river boat.

Here are couple more sites with visitor info for your perusing:

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attracti...nnecticut.html

http://www.ctvisit.com/mystic

Looking forward to seeing/meeting everyone.

Kevin

I think Newport, RI is not too far a drive also. It is a beautiful area and the tour of the mansions is great!

AND, (how could I forget this?) in Groton, CT, is the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear powered submarine. It's at the Submarine Museum and is open to the public. The tour is rather short since the nuclear reactor is still on board. But the entire museum is a must see. http://www.ussnautilus.org/

Nearby is EB (Electric Boat) where the latest submarines are built for the US Navy. Years ago we took a river cruise near there. While on the boat we were honored to see one of our navy's latest subs moving down the river headed for a tour of duty. The sub was about 100 yards from our boat. Several sailors were standing on the sub waving at us as we passed each other. It was a beautiful site, but it also gives you a sense of pride, and a chill up your back. seeing that amazing machine, and knowing what it represents, makes a person humble beyond words. I am glad these "sentinels of peace" are there to protect us, but I pray they never have to fire a single destructive weapon.

I knew you would all enjoy the area. I am planning on setting up a things to do post along with a rally schedule, as time grows closer. going to head back down to the area this spring and pick up pamphlets and brochures. Mystic has great shopping and the aquarium, plus the casino is 10 minutes away.

Hey Rich,

Kevin and Lynn and us are going to Hershey on the way back from Mystic. There is a Quilt show going on and Sharon & Lynn will be going for the day. Then we are going to tour around Hershey for a few days and then head to Gettysburg for a few days too.

We will stay at Twin Grove RV park in Pine Grove PA, its about 30 minutes from Hershey and its a nice park.

If you and Helen would like to join us that would be great.

Try to get sites Y02, Y04, Y06, Y08, Y10, Y12, or Y14, they are backins and they backup to a pavillion.

Jason - that definitely looks like our kind of place. I checked the menu and besides the beers that would interest Wally, they even list a negroni under their cocktails and that is my cocktail of choice although I may have trouble deciding between that or the Brooklyn:-) Good choice. Think we will be spending some time there.
