40 amp breaker

Do I need to switch out my 40 amp breaker to a 80 amp if I always run my Jack's and slides when I'm plugged into 50 amp service. Thanks, Bill

The 40 amp breaker will start failing regardless of the power source. It is just a matter of time, uses, and sometimes temperature.

Also less overall wear and tear on the DC system by upgrading to the 80 amp breaker for the hydraulic pump motor circuit

If you have a 40 and working well then upgrading to a 50 may work fine. But you might as well go with an 80. They don’t just suddenly fail and leave you stranded. They just start momentarily tripping and resetting. So it is more the potential nuisance than something critical.

Cold weather is the main source of the problem. The hydraulic fluid gets thicker, the pump works harder pulls more juice causing the breaker to pop.

If you have a 40 or 50 amp breaker and it starts getting weak, you will start developing higher resistance in the breaker which will drop the voltage to the pump motor and that will stress the motor when it’s under load. The sooner you upgrade the better it will be for the motor.

I'd recommend upgrading the breaker regardless.

I wonder if a breaker with a 80 amp trip is wise when they use a 40 in it's place. Maybe go to a 50. 80 may be to much. Maybe the wiring isn't capable of drawing more than 50 amps.

80a is not too much. It was recommended in the Lippert bulletin, and I've not heard even one complaint or warning that the circuit burned up.

The existing factory DC cable from breaker to dual polarity solenoid is more than adequate to handle 80 amp draw. The factory continues to use their surplus stockpile of lower rated cheap resettable breakers instead of installing a properly sized quality resettable breaker that Lippert... makers of the hyd system recommend at the get go...

I’m using AW32 fluid in my hyd system...have from day one... I’ve never tripped my 80 amp breaker and the slides operate slower at temps of 0 degrees but do operate without stalling.

80 amp breaker

From the posts, I do want to make the switch. Does anyone have a picture of it or a good description?
