We were at Costco today and they have the Traeger Grill/Smoker and they are running a special on them until Saturday. They are not cheap by no means but look very interesting. One can BBQ, Smoke and even Bake in them. They are suppose to be able to be used no matter what the temps are outside because of a temp sensor inside the unit and it automatically adds more pellets to the burner when needed to keep the temp where it should be. The smallest one I saw was approximately $350 and the pellets come in about 5-6 different woods for smoking or whatever. The pellets come in 20 lb bags and normally run about $15 per bag. Thinking strongly on getting one because it will fit in our basement or in the back of the tow vehicle ahead of the hitch.

Hi Rondo!
Started out with trager tailgator, then switched to GMG the quality of construction, plus the thermostat, and a little bigger cookbook, can smoke a 12 lb Turkey, just saying.

I bought the traveler at our local Costco when they were here for a roadshow and saved over $100 plus got a cover as well! It only uses about 65 watts after startup so it will work for boondocking!

Costco offers the best deal on the Traegers. The thermostats can be "iffy"

I have the Coleman NXT gas grill but we still carry charcoal in case there is a fire pit/grill at the campsite. Besides we need the lighter fluid to start the campfire......

The NXT stores nicely in our generator bay (we don't boondock so no need for gen) and since it uses the small gas bottles we don't have to plug into the camper butane. I also like the idea that I can roll it around wherever I want it and for sure away from the 5er. It is really great on a rainy day to put the grill just at the edge of the awnings.

Granted the NXT isn't a gourmet chefs idea of a good cooker but it gets the job done at a reasonable price line and is easy to use. Only issue is keeping it clean....

If we were more full timing, I might look for something different.

I have a Big Green Egg at home which can't travel with us. A small egg is way too heavy. I currently have a charcoal Tool Box Grill https://kegaque.com/products/the-toolbox-grill

And am considering a Acorn Jr.

We've had SOB 5th wheels and a couple had the outdoor barbq and stove included for grilling/cooking. What we found is the gas pressure was less and sometimes we couldn't even grill on a windy day. Bought a extend-a-stay long gas line hooked to our RV gas, before regulator, and used that on our weber Q. Would have problems with that when temps were cold. Now we just bring a small gas bottle and grill on picnic table with a smoker tray in the Q.

I simply removed the regulator from the Weber and have had no problems with the flames and heat even it is windy or cold out.

You might also have problems with the hoses you were using. Not all of them work with the Weber.

We have a small Traeger. We take it to Florida but we take the legs off for transport. They do make a smaller portable unit.

I have used the Traeger for two years now and love it. The meat is juicy and tender.

We have a 3950BR and it was a selling point to us that it didn’t have a “outdoor kitchen” in the layout. It takes space from the inside that we would rather have inside. We got a GCI outdoor grill table, a tru-infrared charbroil grill a Coleman stove and a 10 lb propane tank. Now ai can put my “outdoor kitchen” anywhere!

I agree with you Lenny K about the hoses. Especially if its a long run. Had some freezing temps and had a heck of a time getting the gas to flow. Could've been the regulator as well. Just a lot easier to have a small bottle. Found that usually lasts us 3-4 weekend getaways or 1 week.

Portable Smoker

I carry a Green Mountain smoker. The model I have is the Davy Crockett. It has many features and has WIFi so you can control it from your IPhone! It is portable, the legs fold, plug it into an electric outlet, cigarette lighter, or directly to your truck battery. I love it, and would recommend it to anyone. It has a meat probe, you can also program it to do multiple steps!
Check out their website.

Glad we do not have an outside kitchen, would rather have the interior space. We also did not want to grill up close to the 5'ver or deal with a hose hooked up the the main tank line. We went with a small Charbroil Grill2Go infrared from Loews (https://www.lowes.com/pd/Char-Broil-...Grill/50240033), uses the 1lb tanks, has two latches that locks the top down to the bottom part of the grill for travel, light enough to move around the patio area and small enough for storing in the basement. It gets the job done and cooks great steaks/ribs/chicken/lobster. I also purchased an adaptor that will allow me to refill the 1lb tanks direct from the 30lb main tank when needed. Keeping it simple!

I haven’t had luck refilling the 1 lb bottles and went to a 10 lb. I can only get 10 minutes of grill time on a refill. Any tips? I’ve tried freezing the bottle first but didn’t notice much difference.

JLorne, have you tried turning the big tank upside down when you refill the frozen 1lb bottles?
