Fitted Cutting Boards

We purchased our previously owned 2010 3400RL in Aug. of last year from a non Montana dealer. On their lot they also had a 2011 model almost identical to ours but were asking $15000 more, hence the reason for the 2010 purchase. While looking at the 2011 model we noticed that in addition to the fitted sink covers it also has the cutting boards that fit in the sink openings. Ours does have the covers but does not have these cutting boards. Everything in our Monty is exactly the same as the other camper so I assume that the cutting boards would also fit ours as well. I was wondering if anyone else's 2010 model is equipped with these and where would I be able to get a set for our camper. Thanks for any help or information. Tim

I thought those covers were to be used as the cutting boards. Just flip them over. Are you saying, that in addition to the covers, there are cutting boards that fit in the sink cutout holes?

Maybe, someone made them?

Scott, yes there are cutting boards in addition to the fitted sink covers, one even has slots cut into it to allow for drainage or something. The cutting boards appear to fit in the sink openings and allow the covers to fit into the openings above them. Tim

My 2010 doesn't have fitted cutting boards. It's not a 3400RL though. 15k is a pretty big jump for one model year. Those are mighty expensive cutting boards, I'd say.

It's be esay enough to make?! Trace the sink cover on a piece of plywood. Cut it out w/a jig or scroll saw. Finish and Voila. Neat idea, and simple I think?!!

sambam lol that's what I thought! The 2011 did have the 6 point auto level option and slam latch storage doors but those are the only major differences. Tim

Chris I guess I could make some, hadn't really thought of that option! I do have a discount store fairly close that I can buy cutting boards fairly cheap. could custom make them I guess. Good idea! Tim

We had them on the 2011 3750Fl and I thought we had them on our 2007 3400RL as well?? One is a cutting board and the other is a drying rack. I would think a dealer should be able to track them down. Perhaps PM or email HOOK and he may be able to assist in the search.

Bingo great idea, hadn't thought about asking HOOK! I did call Keystone and they said I could not buy from them as I'm not a dealership! not sure what difference that makes but guess it is what it is. The nearest Montana dealership is a couple of hours away and haven't had time to visit them. Will ask HOOK. Tim

We have the two thick Corian cutting boards that fit into sink wells and match the counter top (The underside of each is white and intended for use as a cutting board if one wishes). They each have a large hole next to one side so you can reach in and remove them from the sink. However, when we set up the rig, DW removes them both and puts them in the cabinet right below the sink and that's where they stay until we break camp. For us, they are too heavy for use as cutting boards and we prefer the smaller lightweight cutting boards we carry in one of the kitchen cabinets. We have several of the thin lightweight plastic kind so that we can dedicate for cutting meat, and/or vegetables and keep the cutting separate (minimize cross contanimation and such). They are much smaller and lighter and more mobile than the hefty sink covers and store vertically in one of the cabinets with the pots and pans. So we got the option of theses matching cutting boards but would have been fine without them with anything covering the sink. We store the dish soap, hand soap and a dishrack we keep at the sink under the covers for convenience sake.

Tim and Dea-- If you have a discount store near you that you can purchase cutting board large enough to fit each sink, either the poly or wood cutting boards, I would try that myself. I'm sure Larry(Hook) will be able to help you also for specific ones but if you are handy at all, the tracing of the fitted sink covers you have already and then cutting them out would be easy. You can also purchase the larger sheets of poly, thick enough for cutting boards, do the trace and cut procedure on them at any of the larger hardware or building supply stores. Good luck and let us know what you decide on!

Our 2010 has them so it probably depended on when it was built. You should be able to order them I would think.

Our 2012 3402 has four inserts, two Corian that match the counter and two slightly smaller ones that are the white poly material. We have the white Corian sinks, so the cutting board and drain board set down inside the sink below the counter top, and then the Corian inserts set on top of the edge of the sinks, over the cutting boards and flush with the counter top. Don't know what they do with the models that are using the stainless steel sinks.

Ours has both the sink covers (matching the counter top) and the cutting board & drying rack (thanks Bingo, neither of us could figure that one out!). Somehow yours must have been lost. It shouldn't be that hard to find a cutting board the right size and then trim it down to fit.

Our '14 has the SS kitchen sink. It only has the covers made from the counter top material.

Now another project.

Our '15 3402RL has the stainless steel sinks but we bought it used & the sink covers matching the counter top were not in the unit when we bought it. Does anyone know if they can be purchased and at approx what cost?

Thank you! I just found out they are $138. I guess for right now I'll add them to the "wish list"

Tim,
Like most have mentioned, fabricating a set would be an easy weekend project. The cutting board blanks can be picked up at Lowes or Home Depot and trimmed to fit your sinks.

Not to change the subject, but was your picture taken at Up the Creek RV Park In Pigeon Forge? The scenery looks very familiar.
