2008 Super duty in dealers shop for repairs...

Yepper...
Since day one, there has been a steering/suspension problem. I can feel it when driving in the steering wheel. It feels like there is a shaft inside a shaft that is hitting the other, like a Troll inside there with a tiny ball peen hammer when I hit a bump, accelerate, and decelerate, the guy hits the other shaft. (Hard to describe)
I took it in this morning, the service adviser, (who is a master mechanic) drove it with me and stated, yes, I can feel it.
The had it all day, called me an hour or so and said they were driving an identical truck to see if it did it too. They just called and said the new truck like mine was solid as a rock. Sooo, they will get hold of the super mechanic wherever on the hotline and see if there is a fix.
Any of you had this problem??? Probably just the Ozzman..why me?
I am confident they will fix it....I hope.

Sorry to hear about this Ozz. I hope they find a quick fix for your new baby.
I took my new toy to the shop today to have them look at the front end as well. The service manager cussed out my salesman because the shop didn't get to do their 57 point inspection/service before I drove it off the lot. After about 1 minute of standing there in sheer shock...I was impressed! The service manager just got my seal of approval! In all the years I have seen someone so passionate about their job in a long long time.

Hey, What about the carrier bearing mid-ship? I had mine making an annoying groaning noise and could feel it in my butt at different acceleration/deceleration moments. Anyway keep us posted...we wanna know the scoop.

Ozz, sorry the hear about your problem. It is great that you were able to have it do the problem for them. Those are much easier to fix.

Ozz, be sure they didn't put the GM intermediate steering shaft in that Ford. GM has been trying to correct this issue since the early 90's. I need to get my truck down and have them install the latest version.

Keep very detailed notes and records. Names, dates, times, places, what they said, what they did and what they said they would do. Hopefully you won't need them, but if you do, you'll have them.

Jim, I think your 2008 has the same frontend my 2005 4x4 had. That frontend is only on the 4x4. I took my 2005 to an independent alignment shop to see if it needed an alignment (it didn't). He told me his opinion is that front end is the best in any of the trucks but he doesn't like the twin I-beam in the 4x2's. Mine was solid as a rock and yours should be, too.

If they have to do much work on the engine, this is what it will look like.

Hearsay, don't know for a fact but have heard $700.00 to $800.00 just for removal and replacement howwever I would worry about all the leaks etc. Lot of disconnects and everyone knows about those. Just hope you don't have a engine problem. GBY..

OK, fixed...I think.
They really checked it out, there are already TSB's on the new ones.
(Not for this...yet.)
My steering column is a break away unit, all new ones on the Super Duty's are. There is a rock guard on the bottom of it, I think the service manager called it a rag guard. It's sheet metal, probably like the heat shields.
They trimmed a little off the bottom of it, and greased it. (This is what I remember from the conversation)
Hey, so far, so good, I'm happy.
Rental..(loaner cars)
I drove an '08 Excursion, pretty nice, but Ozz's luck clicked in, and the engine light came on, took it back and got an '08 Tahoe.
I just want to say that my truck is more comfortable, has much more power...he he... and better vision in traffic. In short, I LOVE MY TRUCK and missed it. If I didn't haul or service anything, I would still drive one.
So, Super Duty owners, you might run into this problem.
See Ya!

Jim, I learned the other day that if you intend to invoke the lemon law (heaven forbid), Ford requires a written notification in advance. With the luck you've been having, I would keep this in mind. I'm going outside now to look for that shield. Bob

Thanks, Bob. This is such a minor deal, I wouldn't push it that far, but good to know.
Seems to be fine now.
