Let's try this one...

You all are too good from some of my brain teaser's, but will try another one. Here it goes...

You have found bags of gold. How many bags it up to you, but at least more then 3 bags.

In each bag you have gold pieces that weigh 1 pound each. The amount of gold pieces in each bag will vary from 1 to how ever many are in the bag

Mixed in with these bag's of gold there is one bag that is counter fit. The counter fit piece's weigh 1 pound 1 ounce.

You need to find the counter fit bag. You are giving a scale but the scale will only weigh the gold 1 time. So if you put all the bag's on the scale you will get the weight of all the bag's and then the scale will not work again. So it is a one time only weigh in.

How do you find the counter fit bag of gold?

Good luck

Keep adding the bags to the scale one at a time without removing the existing bags and note the weight with each additional bag?

Label each bag sequentially starting at 1 then take out the number of coins/bars from the bag equal to the number you wrote on the bag. Then weight all the taken out gold. What ever the amount after the decimal is the bag that is not real it just requires some math.

Take the gold to a coin dealer and let them figure it out.

Ok. Using your 3 bag minimum and 1 pound gold coin weight, I decided I have 10 coins in each bag. Bag 1 has 10 pounds of gold. Bag 2 has 10 pounds of gold. Bag 3 has 10 pounds, 10 ounces of counterfeit gold. With my 2 bags of real gold totaling 20 pounds, at today's gold prices, I have $570,172.80. I think I'll pay someone else to figure it out for me.

Great try but I said you only have a try at the scale so you can not weigh 3 time's. Good try

Charlie, I never used the scale. In fact, I threw it away. For that kind of money, I'll buy one that works.

You my friend are the WINNER. Very good.....

At 3 bag's of gold bag number 1 you take 1 piece, bag 2 two piece's of gold, bag 3 three piece's of gold.

That will give you 6 pounds of gold. If you are 6 pounds 1 ounce bag 1 is the counter fit,, if you had 6 pounds 2 ounce's bag 2 is the counter fit, and if you have 6 pound's 3 ounce's, it bag 3

Thanks guys.. this group is too darn smart.......

that wouldn't work because you don't have the same amount of gold in each bag. you could have 5 pound's in one bag 20 pound's in another....
