adding soap dispenser
DW wants to add a soap dispenser at the kitchen sink. I need to drill a hole app. inch and a quarter in the corain counter top. I have been trying to find a carbide tipped hole saw but no one here seems to have one. Has anyone drilled a hole in their corian counter top and if so what type of hole saw did you use. Has anyone been brave enough to do this.
Thanx for any help
Bill

Bill,
I did it (with great trepidation I must add). The secret is to fully cover the area to be cut with masking tape. The hole saw I used came from Lowes and I used it with a battery powered drill. It is a white Lenox hole saw with an arbor bit included ( I am sure they have 1 1/4" also, added link on edit), here is the web page:
1 1/2"Lenox hole saw
1 1/4" Lenox hole saw
Hope this helps

Bingo is right, you can cut the holes in Corian with a standard good quality hole saw. I already had a diamond hole saw left over from my ceramic tile installing days so didn't need to buy another. The Corian isn't any harder than fiberglass and scratches just as easily. The masking tape idea is also a good idea. I put two dispensers on our counter. One thing to keep an eye on is the location underneath the counter. There are some braces and cabinet items in the way so be sure to give yourself room for the nut and gasket underneath.

Bill, I have cut several holes in Corian using the same Lenox hole saw Bingo referenced. The tape is a must and head Dave's advice. You won't have any problems. Jim

Another thing that I will add is that it may be advisable to pre-drill a pilot hole if you are concerned with any possibility of slippage with the arbor bit. I never had to, but I believe that is the recommended procedure. I definitely agree with Dave's strong suggestion to do a look-see beneath the counter. On our rig it was imperative to do so!!

Something to consider before you drill. We bought some soap dispencers from camping world that had a sticky bottom on them that just sticks and holds the dispencer on the countertop. Never had one come loose and could put any liquid (hand soap, dishwashing liquid) that was needed.

as all the others have said use a good hole saw and not a diamond type your counter top is not tile, marble, or granet. it is a resen type and ti will just clog up the diamond cutter.
another thing is clearance under the counter for the bottle befor you drill.

Thanx for of the input. Went to Lowes and bought a soap dispenser to match the faucet for $21. Bought Lenox 1/14 hole saw for $11 . I tnen covered the area where the dispenser hole will be with masking tape, lots of masking tape, over kill I'm sure. Marked the spot and made the pilot hole. With the Lenox 1/14 hole saw in my BD cordless drill I started to drill the hole.Tried to keep the drill at a slow speed. I was quit surprised at how easily the saw went through the corian. Now I think corian is just a fancey word for epoxy resin. Anyway the soap dispenser is in and DW is happy
Thanx again
Bill

Love to hear about a successful conclusion to what at the beginning must have seemed to be a daunting task (I know for me it was, I had to wait until DW left the rig to do it so I wouldn't have to witness the shedding of tears when the hole installation was being performed!! ). When do we get to see pics of the aftermath of the bravery! By the way, anytime that you gain experience with putting holes in a rig, it always makes the next hole(s) easier!!

How about a photo or two? We have been considering putting in a drinking water dispenser, but are still just in the "we are thinking about it" stages
