Roof coming apart

Purchased a Montana high country last year. Sits on a permanent site. Last year water leaking in from AC unit. 3 loose bolts, 4th one was stripped. Water leaking in a window when it rains. Those issues have been fixed. Now I see the metal rail at the rear of the roof that holds the rubber roof in place in coming off. Screws on both ends have pulled out of the roof. How do I fix that? Has anyone see or heard of this issue? I am afraid if I screw it back down & caulk it it will just pull out again.

Bigger screws and Dicor self leveling sealant.

Ok, thanks. I am thinking bigger screws and more screws. For having bought a 5th wheel that cost more than my 1st house, I have not been happy with the purchase.

Put in some bigger screws. Then use crazy seal the DIY version of RV Armor so you never have to worry about your roof again

Screws that came out are #10x1". Using #12x1.5". Still not hitting any wood to pull the metal strip down. Try longer screws?

3" deck screws and Dicor & the job is fixed. If I needed 3" screws to hit wood, what the heck did the factory guy/gal think 1" screws were going to do?

They weren’t worried about it. They were only worried about slamming it together so they could go home early.

Not Impressed

I just got a 2020 Montana and have had a number of small ankle biter issues. I fixed them myself instead of hauling the darn camper all the way back to the dealer and wait a month for them to fix them. I'm not impressed with the workmanship of my Montana. I had a 2017 Forest River Sierra and had much better luck with that.

Don't try a Forest River these days. Our first TT was a Forest River and we liked it, but from the forums I belong to these days I can tell you I wouldn't buy another one.

I had a 2013 Sierra by Forest River and it was junk. I kept it 1 year then traded it in on this 2014 Montana which has been very good. I guess you can get a lemon on anything.

Last unit was a Cougar. No issues. Lots of issues on this one. Sit permanently in an RV park which makes issues an even bigger problem.

If you get a chance tour the factory. That is not how it works.

Oh, I know exactly how it works. I have an acquaintance that is an QA inspector at one of the Keystone plants. The line has a certain number of units per shift to build. When that number is achieved, they go home. Doesn’t matter if it takes them 4 hours or 8 hours. They get paid their 8 either way.

Related to the roof repair, does anyone know the thickness of the decking on the roof? I have an older Montana ( 2010) that the roof membrane is coming loose from the roof decking. I know it will eventually tear off if I cannot secure it to the decking so I'm hoping to use screws with large, thin washers to secure it. Prefer not to have 3" screws poking thru the living room ceiling. Any advise on my roof problem would be greatly appreciated.

I suspected it to be relatively thin. So 1/2” screws should do the job. Thanks.
