Door Casing Question
2018 Montana HC 381TH
Need to replace piece of Door Casing around door. Trekwood had it listed on their site for purchase (included pic from their web page). But when I received the shipping quote they said it was no longer available.
Trim - Door Casing - 3/8" x 1 1/4" x 96" - Carb 2 - MDF - Sprinter Walnut
Wanted to see if anyone know of another supplier or options.
Most likely will have to do the best I can to recreate the trim piece. Also looking for a router bit that would match that shape. Have not found it but looking!!
Thanks for any input or other options.
Keith

Would it be easier/cheaper to get a new one at the local hardware store?

I replaced all my trim with real wood from home depot, stained it myself and got both doors done for less than $20.00. The trim that was on originally was a press-board, cardboard type with a laminate over it. While i had the trim off i also filled in all the gaps with insulation, less drafts and looks so much better with the real wood.

Do this and be thankful that Trekwood didn't have it. The items they do have are WAY OVERPRICED and their shipping charges will blow your mind.

Keith-- Google "RV Salvage Stores" or "RV Salvage Companies" in your area and see if there are any close and then go over and see if they have any of the trim you are looking for. If not, do like Rick Jones did and go to a local hardware store that carries trim and purchase it there.

I was thinking about just replacing the one piece that got damaged. As in RVs not your normal size or standard casing piece.... But agree with everyone here. Probably best to just get some trim pieces, stain them and replace all the door casings. I only have 2 doors that I would have to replace them on.
And yes to WeBeFulltime - Trekwood does have $$$ shipping costs. The shipping costs for another item in my order was about the same as the shipping cost! So will not be moving forward with that.
Also looked for Savlage place, but no luck.
Just another project to add to the retiree list. (not sure how anyone gets bored when the retire )
Thanks for everyone's feedback.
Happy RVing!

My thought is to buy an extra piece of trim so that you can apply different stain colors until you are happy with the results! That coming from a retired 35 year Painting Contractor!
Good luck with your project bro. ☮️✌

Yep Mr. Mustang - that is what I am going to do until I find the right shade of "Sprinter Walnut" to match - or I say "close enough, that'll do!!!".

Without knowing your level of experience, I would suggest a pre-seal on any soft wood casing! You might even try a gel stain. I have had good results with the whole blotchy thing on some woods for a more uniform color!

Definitely not as much experience as you have! But appreciate all input as I like to continue to learn and improve my skills.
But agree, I have been using MinWax Pre stain wood conditioner on my projects. Earlier this year I found the MinWax Gel Stain (Coffee) and used it on my last project which was an over engineered work bench with pull out drawer for table saw and RV Batteries so will not have to bend over and push them underneath.
Attached pic also.

I had the same problem so I took small piece to Lowes and got something real close, I then did a super close color match and changed the entire trim around one door. Being doors are not side by side in a RV exact shape didn’t really matter. The biggest is the color match, if you match super close you will never notice the shape isn’t perfect.

I doubt you will ever find a router bit that is exactly the same as what's on your HC. And unless you have a router table and a horizontally mounted router motor would be hesitant to try to cut an 8 foot long piece of thin wood stock to shape. Molding suppliers use a very large shaper and cut literally miles of trim at a time.
Love my Fords. This one helps my '31 along:

I will have you know that that is me in the green and I won my race! Beat the two guys in red behind me in Rams. This is a door casing thread - I was running to Home Depot to pick up some casing and stain.

Dave I like your truck.
I drive a Ford now but I’m still a Chevy guy especially if it was a new Z06 Vette but what would I do with one if I had it. Oh well. Some times it’s better to just dream.

Lynwood - I dream of (real) '65 Shelby Cpbra's too but at their value would be afraid to drive it - and I have driven a 427 version

That one is a 5.0/302 simply because the 351W's extra inch in width with the setback recess. The last street rod had a much 'warmer' 351W.
I think we had best get back to the OPs question after this hijack
