Finally Installed

Finally install my two Fantastic fan roof vent covers today, it was an awesome day outside-68 degrees in Fort Smith AR, also repaired a hole on an edge of the roofing where the aluminum strip is screwed to the side of the slide out. I put a strip down the eternal bond over the whole length of the edge and just over the top of the aluminum strip so I don’t have to caulk it.

Love these vents, now I can leave them open in the rain.

I just put one on our bathroom vent about 2 weeks ago. I agree, they are a great addition. I got the one with the ez clips, so install was quicker than climbing up and down on the rig. Wish I had done that a year ago.

We've had them installed on our last 2 previous campers as well as our current Montana. 3 campers ago, we got hit with some really terrible hail. The hail busted out both vent covers in the trailer. Rain came in and soaked the bed under it. I didn't know the vents were broken out for over a week, even though the camper was parked at home.

When I saw what happened, the hail pulverized the plastic covers, there were completely shot. I was able to run tape over the entire covers from the shards that remained and get it sealed up enough more rain would not come in.

I had a couple other small things I needed fixed on that camper, so it to my local dealership and had them replace the vent covers (and the fan in the bathroom, which also broke out all the fins on the fan). At that point, I had them install the vent covers too. I figure, if a hail storm ever occurred again, it was easier to replace the cover than the vent lid itself.

Every camper since then, we've had the covers installed at delivery. We've never regretted doing it.

The current camper (Montana) has the rain sensor vents. And, like you, are able to keep the vents open, even in the rain.

I don't know why RV manufacturers don't install these covers as part of the standard equipment. It would make life so much easer for everyone!

I had remove the 4 tabs that my 5th vent base had on them, before installing the 4 clips that we’re screwed down. The clips have a pin to were you set the cover on and use a corrugated clip to hold down the vent cover. Pull the 4 clips and the vent cover comes off.

I took all my tools need on the roof but as usual I had go down the ladder a few time lol.

Hail is my biggest fear, I’ve been lucky so far with this 5th but this year I have a feeling it’s going to be a bad year here in the south.
