MORyde IS & Disk brakes

For those who have added them, how much did they increase your trailer’s weight and height? —- Thanks

MORryde measures the height before the install begins, to make sure camper does not exceed legal height of 13'-6". In videos I have watched, the finished campers were within 1" of what they were before installation. As for weight, I'm not sure, but if there is any additional, it would add only to the GCVW of truck and camper, but not to the pin weight.

Mine went from 13’ 4”” to 13’ 5””. So up one inch. Sorry I don’t know the weight increase. I know my before weight but haven’t been to a scale since installation.

As stated, they measure your height and when you receive it back, it should be the same height. I have not encountered anyone who wishes they hadn’t done the switch to IS/Brakes. We had them installed on our last unit and already have our appointment for September to install IS on the new 3230CK (they will use the Legacy disk brakes). Good luck with your decision.

We did both of these upgrades and never looked back. When we sold the rig it wasn't my intention to try to recoup the investment dollars from the upgrade. With that in mind I still would not buy another rig without both disc brakes and IS. For some it's a tough decision in the price point that Montana falls into but for me the better ride, the better suspension and removal of known failure points was a no brainer. With our weight being at maximum as well we chose to upgrade to 8k vs 7k. May not be right for everyone but it was the right move for us. To the OP good luck with your decision process. I haven't talked to a single person of multiple 5er brands that has regretted installing either disc brakes or Moryde IS. Don't forget to address tires and wheels

I wish - best bet is to call MorRyde and discuss options. Mine was over twice that and I've heard lead-time is long right now but you could get on a cancellation list if you are flexible.

If you currently have a Montana with Disk Brakes, it will run around $4000. If you don’t have disk brakes, it will run about $7000. They have a 7k and 8k option and also Timken bearings as an upgrade. We had IS and Disk Brakes installed 2 years into our third Montana. It is incredible the difference in tire wear. Our tires look like new three years after installing IS. We also broke springs twice on our previous Montana, once in Alaska. With another trip to Alaska planned, we definitely want the peace of mind of IS. It is an expensive upgrade, but since we have the Legacy package, we save $3000 over last time because they will use our Disk Brakes. Plus, the areas we boondock in the mountains are rough on suspension. The added travel helps on forest service roads.

If you have a unit with disc brakes, make sure they are Titan or Kodiak as the Dexter brakes will not convert over to the IS from MorRyde so I'm told. There is a difference in the mounting of the caliper brackets.

Gary Wheeler told me the Dexter would work on the 7000 lb IS but not the 8000 lb IS. I have not looked to see which is on mine yet. Seems like it has been snowing since we picked ours up in Iowa. We have our appointment for September.

Disk Brakes>

I had MoRyde install disk brakes on a SOB, and awesome addition. Costly, but it was great. However todays newer 5th wheels with dexter axles the drum brakes work great, just make sure they are adjusted properly. But, Disk Brakes are a great addition.

Happy Trails.
