Cheyenne Mountain State Park
Hope to spend a couple of days here prior to the Rocky Mtn Rally. Anybody have any suggestions on a favorite campground or spot inside the park?

We were there in May 2016. Stayed in site 9 on Raptor Glen loop. Pull-thu with great view of Colorado Springs. Very nice state park. We enjoyed sitting outside and listening to "Taps" from the base below.

I totally agree on the Rapton Glen loop. We have stayed in sites 1, 2, and 3, which are on the "upside" of the loop, but all the sites in that loop are good. You better make reservations as soon as possible. You can go online and see what sites are still available. Chances are much better for 2 or 3 days mid week. That's what we are doing in a couple of weeks. Only got 2 days, but we think that's worth it. We will be in site 3 this time. In July we were in site 1. Good luck.

Thank you all for your response. I went ahead and booked Swift Puma Heights site 27 because it was the only site available for our rig and I could only get it for 2 nights so must find another campground for Friday night. Recommend another park around the Springs? Padredw I seem to remember you having a favorite park over by Durango. What was the name of that park? Jim

Hi Jim, first to the Colorado Springs question. We stayed over the weekend at Woodland Park in a commercial campground "Diamond RV." It was fine for our purpose. We had already planned to go over to Mueller State Park for a few days. It was our first time there and it was great. We will definitely go back sometime--I hope.
Our favorite campground in the Durango area is out at Vallecito Lake and is called "Blue Spruce." Now, to be clear, it is not a convenient campground for Durango, but it is a great place to stay. We were there in July. On our trip next month we will only be passing through Durango on our way to Santa Fe and back toward home.
Hope you have a nice trip and a good time at the rally.

Dave and Shirley, Thanks for the info. We are looking forward to checking out Vallecito Lake. Jim
