new chevy or gmc any differences

Simple question as I'm having way to man issues with Ford. 2002 exporer new engine and now fighting with ford to cover since i have the extended coverage. 2004 f150 98% sure by 2 of fords' truck mechanics needs new trans though it shows no codes. I have extended coverage on this also. Dealer says it will be covered to problem. We'll see, I hope so.

Now if I get a new gm truck does it ride as good as the ford?
I went with ford years ago because of there ride. Poor ride quality with gm trucks then. I drove a 2007? dodge back in the winter felt like I was riding on a 2x12! No thanks! That just leaves the gms.
So how's the ride in a gm crew dually 4x2? Diesel of couse.
Which one is most like the xlt from ford?
Thanks
Chuck

go back to ford and go to a king ranch and load it up , diesel and the works and yes 20 " tires get a better ride also and tow package which includes the new built in 5th wheel brack system .. no more after market junk . you will be shocked at it

It is strictly my opinion; nothing rides like a GM truck! This is one of the areas that the GM HD's really out do the competition. As with any dually, the empty ride is going to be more harsh than a single rear wheel truck, but I still say GM wins in this category. Only true way to find out is go and test drive one for yourself and compare the two. No definite right or wrong answer as their is no way to "measure" ride quality other than opinion.

Love my duramax. lt3 trim package, including Onstar, in truck hands free phone, sm radio (satellite. Love it. Rides great, tows great, good mileage, Allison tranny works wonderfully well, Just no problems with it in the 3 years I have had it.

I've heard that the new ford king ranch diesel is nice too, but have also heard of regenerative problems with the particulate filter (causing fires in the grass or shooting flames out of the exhaust system)and that ford has recalled 3700 of them to do a reflash to the computer so that it can power down to the side of the road until the exhaust system cools off. You need to drive all brands and then make your decision.

Not sure what the difference between the Silverado and the Sierra is. I do know that the 2006 2500HD GMC was higher off the ground than the 2006 2500HD Chevy. Don't know why. The piece I was reading on the internet did not explain why this was - just that it was... Other than that, I believe they would be identical?

dsprik,
Don't buy that one. I've been in the assembly plant and the only difference is the cosmetics. In fact, the stories are legion about trucks being delivered with GMC labels on one side and Chevy on the other.

Now, as to observations of one brand over another, to each his own. Beyond that it is just opinion. And remember, statistical facts are more than 58.3% made up on the spot. I read that on a napkin at Hooter's....

Dave,

I think I saw that napkin! You must have left it there when you left .

lwcdg -

Why ask - go drive! You've got a great excuse to go try them all. I've always been a little partial to the Chev ride. This much improved suspension on this Ford is a little rough when empty.

Not sure if it still applies but GMC used to have a higher payload ratings then the Chevy which might effect the ride between the two.

The GMC SLT option is the heated leather seats and the rest of the aminities that goes along with it. I think GM is trying to catch up with the Ford King Ranch in that respect, just hope they don't catch up with the price! Ford King Ranch is a great truck! GM offers GPS and onboard braking systems now too! For the life of me, I don't understand what a 4x2 is? Is that a two wheel drive wanting to be a four wheel drive? I've heard that expression a lot and could never figure it out.

Don't know which brand rides the best. But I do know this GM builds a great Truck. Chevy or GMC there is really no difference, we have have owned three GMC and two Chevy's since 2003 and there really is no difference. I have never owned any other TV that wasn't a GM product. We have ordered the 2007.5 or the 2008 but can't submit the order until the last week of April. Why GM is doing this I haven't a clue. I believe GM is up to something, they may just change a few things and rebadge it a 2008. It does seem strange that they want build a Chevy dually 1 ton 3500 series until May, that use to be change over time for the new model year. Oh well it will happen. We have ordered every option for the Chevy Duramax/Allison except the DVD player and the Navagation system. I think the option is the LTZ version.

I really think you would be happy with the GM HD series Trucks, the ride will depend on what type of Truck you get 2500HD or 3500HD. The Chevy Kodiak 4500 that we now have rides better than any Truck we have owned. But it has Air Ride suspension and Air Ride seats. Good Luck on you choice. GBY....

P.S. Just keep in mind it is a Truck, and will not ride as good as a Car.... All the Big Three are building great Trucks....

We had a 2005 GMC and we loved it. Now with the 2007 it isn't as comfortable in the cab. Less elbow room. At least on the passenger side.
When and if we ever get to go somewhere (gonna snow this weekend) it will be interesting how the two dogs and two cats fit in the back. Had plenty of room in the 2005 for the crates.

For 14 years I drove a Dodge Dakota. When I got in the Chevy and drove it it was like riding in a luxury car, comparatively speaking. I know that's not much of a comparison, but the newer trucks ride awesome. I did drive a new (06) Ford and it still seemed to drive like a truck, not a bad thing mind you, it is, after all, a truck. The Dodge felt stiff, but the Chevy gave me the best ride. Mind you this is MHO. All the HD's seem to ride a little stiff when empty. These are work trucks by the way. And the only difference between Chevy and GMC is the grill and emblems..Possibly the price. Kind of like Dodge and Plymouth mini vans were....But as all have said, you must try them all, I would not discount any of them based on what I read. Good luck on your selection, I'm sure you will enjoy it...

I love my 2007 Silverado Classic 3500, Dually, Duramax/Allison, Crew Cab, 4X4, LT3. This is the only GM product I have ever owned and as I said I love it. A friend who has a 2006 Ford Dually did comment recently while riding in the back of my truck that he thought the ride of the Chevy empty was much better than his Ford empty.

Okay, so I bought a SRW 4x4 extended cab 2006 D/A SLT. Great ride, great towing, great sound (as in very little from diesel engine), great comfort, great etc. Just bought a 2007 dually, crew cab SLT 4x4 D/A. Only 200 miles on it and find that the ride is very similar to the 06 SRW. BTW, the 07 is the classic model, so really the same truck.

The only reason for buying the 07 is peace of mind towing our 3400RL - while the SRW rode level, I wanted a little more wiggle room.

That and the 7 year 100,000 mile warranty.

The king ranch is a nice truck but the cowhide seats IMO detract from the appeal for me. They look fantastic when new, but over time IMO they look like an old baseball mitt.

I was a Ford man for a long time until my 01 F-250 4x4 diesel was totaled in Canada 2 years ago. Due to the problems with Ford and their 6.0 engine and the extra expense I changed to Chevy. Better engine and transmission, great ride even though I could get the X-Plan since my wife worked for Ford Motor Credit. The Ford is definately better looking, but I like the dependability of the Duramax-Allison combo. I als own a 05 Crown Victoria. The one bad thing about Chevy is there follow up after purchase for service work required. Have owned truck for 6 months and haven't gotten one reminder about first service. My Ford car, I have received several notices and they promptly let me know if I have went beyond the proper time for service. Chevy is gratly lacking in this aspect. I am still receiving checkup notices on my 01 F-250 a 1 1/2 after it was totaled. The Ford and Chevy come from the same owned dealership. Ford has the better service.
