I've "graduated" to being able to give myself the shots and just take the serum with me in the fridge. My cousin's wife has a different doctor who will not allow her to do that. But I'm not sure why.

Ask your doctor. If he will let you have the serum, then bonus! Maybe he will allow you take it if you get the shots or give yourself the shots in a clinic or doctor's office.
