Hot water heater/reservoir

We are having an issue with our hot water reservoir. It will fill, but then over an hour water is not in the reservoir so we turn off the water heater to prevent the element from burning up. Any ideas?

Your speaking of your water heater?
Water heater is 6/10/12 gallon tank that will remain full.
There is no way short of a leak or draining that they don’t have water in them.
Maybe I’m not understanding your issues.

Make sure you are connected to city water, or water in your fresh water tank and pump on.
Turn on any hot water tap to let the air out so water will come into your tank. Verify all the air is purged by opening the tank pressure relief valve a little.
In your convenience center, make sure the water heater bypass is off. Make sure you do NOT turn on your water heater until all the air is out or you could cause damage.

Thanks Daryles the pictures were a big help. It helped show what position the water heater bypass valve should be. That solves the problem. Thank you!
