receiver hitch needed

we have a 2006 2980 RL which is in excellent shape and serves us well but it doesn't have a rear bumper. I need to put a receiver hitch on it to carry bicycles
but would like to have a diagram or such before I cut in to the undercarriage. A bit afraid of cutting into some thing unknown, if it were sheetrock ceiling or floor joist I'd have no fear.
Has anyone done this type of thing before? will I end up with fiberglass work?
will replacing the under covering difficult?
A BIT OF A ROOKIE....THANKS

I put one on my 3000RK for the same reason you need one. Didn't have to cut anything as the hitch I bought bolted to the I-beams running front to back of the 5'er. They are easy to locate from underneath the unit. I did have to buy an extension for the receiver as the fiberglass rear cap bows out quite aways from the end on the I-beams. Been years ago but I think I bought my on Tweety's. Mine has the 2" receiver. Easy install.

All you have to do is access the frame; no other mods required. Measure your frame; should be 72" outside. I've put this hitch on a couple 5th wheels; bolted, then welded. If you don't want to install it, a local hitch shop can do it; pretty reasonable.

An easy solution for bikes, as jimcol suggested, is the
Draw-Tite 82201 Multi-Fit Motor Home Hitch which you can purchase from numerous sources. Here is a link to the Amazon offering https://www.amazon.com/Draw-Tite-822...=ATVPDKIKX0DER
You will need an extender to clear the rear cap.

The other alternative is to visit your local welder who can fab something for you at likely a higher cost.

Hitch/bicycle rack 2007 3000RK
I had a local hitch shop build one for me.
make sure it can carry the weight of a E-Bike (no Flex or bounce)
an hitch extension may be required to extend the bike rack past the cap.
These extensions can cause a lever action or flex.
mine is bolted on to the I beam frame.
allows for removal- in process of replacing gray tank that sits above it.
Cheers
