Well, finally had the pleasure of paying $662 to register the Monty in NV. They base the value on msrp which is unfair since nobody pays full tilt especially for an rv. Overall our total dmv bill was 22% less than CA so I can't complain too much.

I registered our 17 ram. Nevada charged us 1477.00 for the first year... pure evil.

Our 14 Ram was $345 to register. DFB, did your bill include sales tax or something?

Don't want to make anyone too grumpy.......But we registered our 2020 MHC 294RL last year here in Alberta for $67. That is a one time registration fee good for the life of the trailer.

That is how it should be........one time and cheap. My wife and I cannot wait to move out of California. My Christmas present this year from the CA DMV was the renewal for my 2020 2500......$983.00

When we register a vehicle in Virginia we pay sales tax on it for the amount paid. I think it’s 5.5 % but I’m not sure of the percentage.
Every state has a different way of collecting money to run itself. If they don’t get you one way they will get you another.

In NY State you pay on your out of pocket costs. If new, it's at least 7% of the actual selling price. If it's a trade, it's still 7% but only on the difference between the trade allowed and the final cost. If you paid $25,000 out of pocket, got a $25,000 trade, your NY tax bill in my county would be a one time $1750 tax. Other counties could be more. My yearly registration, 1 Jan - 31 Dec is $167.75 but pro rated. I usually renew about 1 May unless we take an early trip. I pay about $120 for the year's remaining 8 months. While many NY taxes can be ridiculously high, vehicle registration seems to be fairly equitable vs some states.

Ohio
1994 boat trailer - $41.00
2010 car - $56.00
2016 montana - $46.00
2016 truck - screwed up story
Registration would normally have been $71.00.
Certain counties in Ohio have an emissions test requirement prior to getting a registration. It is performed every other year based on the year of the vehicle. Brand new vehicles are exempt for four years. 2020 was the first year an E-check was required for my truck. I went to the E-check station and was told I could not get an E-check because of the weight of my truck.
2016 F-350, Diesel, Crew Cab, Long Bed, Dually, 14000lbs GVWR. After several hours and much discussion with the BMV, the E-check station and Ohio EPA, depending on who you talk to, any vehicle with a GVWR over 10000lbs must be registered as a COMMERCIAL vehicle. WHAT THE ??????
I offered a weigh slip showing a weight of 9300lbs. No good, GVWR only.
Needless to say, I had no choice. The registration fee almost tripled and as an added insult, I could not keep my veterans tags.

The only work arounds for this is to make sure your don't live in a county that does the E-check or trade in every four years. Otherwise, just bite the bullet and pay the fee.

As I posted earlier in this thread we bought in CA and paid sales tax there. Hauled it back to FL and registered it there, no cost for tax because they recouped it from CA. Registration on the truck because it is so big it has to be registered once a year at $140.00, the 5th wheel I can register for two years, under $300.00.

One benefit of being in Carson City is there are no smog checks. CA wanted smog checks on the Ram every other year from when it was new. On the other hand they just charged money in lieu of smog checks for our Caddie. Apparently, the amount of money you give them determines how much smog your vehicle produces.

Permanent trailer plate in Missouri is $58.50. Over 24,000 lb truck plates are $213.50 every 2 years. We do have PPT

I think in the eastern part of Virginia there are smog checks but here in the western part of the state there will no smog checks. If you wont to take all the pollution controls off your diesel truck do it.

I ordered a new 3121RL with FBP and the Legacy package. My registration for 2 years, title fees, etc. came to $353. My 2019 Ford F-350 cost me $343 for four years. I live in Oregon. Of course, my personal income tax is high here. Vehicle taxes, registration, and no sales tax help compensate for the state taxes.

While in CA we paid well over $1000 per month in taxes excluding federal tax. Then there were things like inflated auto insurance, utilities, and other business costs that are passed onto consumers. Each state has their own ways of taxing. You don't always get what you pay for. I can see real benefits for full timing if registered in the right place.

One of the best decision I made was leaving California after I retired. My overall cost of living is much less here and the quality of life is much better. My wife really, really wanted to move to the wine country in Oregon and I wanted the Arizona desert...she won. The "hidden" taxes/expenses in California is killing that state. Registration fees, utilities, insurance rates, fuel taxes, and on and on. I would be paying outrageous fees in California with a new one ton truck and a new fifth wheel. There are greener pastures!

Just curious. How many did your overall expense go down?

Home owners insurance almost 1/2, utilities by at least 1/2, fuel is less, registration fees for expensive vehicles is much, much less, my auto insurance went down, many products are restricted in California which requires to buy an inferior product for more money. An example was a water shutoff valve would start leaking after a couple of months. The plumber said drive up to Oregon and get one since California now requires one with special metal that does not hold up. I use ReJex for my front cap. It is not allowed to be sold in California. These reasons, and many more, are the reason that there is such an exodus out of that state.

I Just read some of the restrictions on Prop 65. Wood dust and holiday lights are on the list. If everybody in California adhered to all the restrictions there would be no one to leave California in a month they would all starve to death.
