New fifth wheel owner
Hello all. We are a long term Class C owners who have jumped into the world of the fifth wheel. Certainly we are looking forward to a few trips this year and are very hopeful that we will enjoy this adventure!
We purchased a 2020 291RL. After looking at a lot of different combinations this seemed to fit us best, just two of us and our little ankle-biter! Also we didn't want to over tax the truck being a F250 with the 6.7 diesel.
Look forward to learning on the forum!

Welcome to the forum.
I have done a lot of research on Truck and Trailer GVWR. I have a chevrolet 1 ton pulling a Montana 3791RD. My truck weighs 8440 with me in it and a full tank of diesel. The GVWR for my truck is 11,500. After I hook up the Fifth Wheel loaded with camping supplies, I guarantee I am over the GVWR. However, I am under towing capacity, and under GCWR. My suggestion would be to do research on your 3/4 ton truck and see what your ratings are.

I thought I had checked the ratings and capacities, but maybe not correctly?
My truck has a GVWR of 10000, a fifth wheel weight rating of 14700. The trailer I am buying is 34 foot long, with a curb weight of 11700, pin weight of 2300 and a GVWR of 14100. I seems to me that I am within limits.

GVWR - includes the weight of the truck, anything in the bed, fuel, people, pets
So guess)
10,000 - GVWR Truck
8,250 - Truck weight
300 - fuel weight
600 - people/pets
200 - fifth wheel hitch
2,300 - pin weight (empty 5er)
700 - additional pin weight from stuff in 5er
darn - more than likely the truck is over
That's what i learned when leaving the rally
Hope that helps - think it might be reality

So based on this I better cancel the sale and stay with the Class C. It is very disappointing as I bought this truck to pull my 30ft car trailer (which it does effortlessly) and to pull a fifth wheel RV. My mistake I guess as I did not consider the 10k GVWR which seems ridiculous for this truck.

The set you are talking about is very common - many folks never know better … agreed the 10k is not good
If you have the fifth wheel hitch, ask the dealer to put it on your truck and go to a set of scales.

Yes, if you are to far into it I would hook her up and go to the scale but to be more sure take your truck ready for towing first and after you do that take your fiver both ready for camping and that will give you what you need to know. If you not sure of the numbers post both here and someone will tell you what you have, most of us been their.

So we have decided to take the truck to a CAT scale today, with the cargo and people we would normally have in the truck. If the gross weight is below 7000, I believe I will be ok.
7000 truck weight
200 hitch
2100 pin weight
700 misc
has me right at 10000. And if the 10000 GVWR is artificially low then all the better

Disappointment
So I had my truck weighed today, full of fuel, three passengers and a couple hundred pounds in the bed. Wow, some of you were spot on. There is NO way I can pull a fifth wheel of any appreciable size. The stickers on the door tell the entire story which I confirmed by the scales today.
2019 F250 6.7
Crew Cab 4x4
Towing package
Factory puck system
GVWR 10000 (Door sticker and window sticker)
Cargo capacity 2043 (Yellow door sticker)
Scales Front axle 4840
Rear Axle 3540
Total 8380
That leaves me a whopping total available weight of 1620!
I have learned a valuable albeit costly lesson. I bought this truck thinking I could pull my car trailer AND a 32 foot fifth wheel. I guess I w.as oblivious to the door jamb stickers. I doubt if I keep this truck much longer as it will be better to go back to a half ton and avoid the diesel fuel costs etc.
Thank you to all who responded to this thread for your suggestions and insight! I appreciate you all.
