Don't Want To Be Rude...But

I know some of you have been doing this a lot longer than us. When we arrive at a site we have established a certain routine. We set up and drop the Monte and do everything in a certain order and we each have our jobs and everything is double checked. We need about 20 minutes of paying attention to detail to make sure we get everything done correctly and safely. Arriving at one of our stops (Troy AL) on the way south we were next to a newer Class-A. As soon as we started our set-up the younger neighbor came out and started a friendly conversation..."where you from"...."where you going"...bla bla bla....I normally would have just stopped but it was almost dark so I wanted to get set up. I kind of threw some answers over my shoulder and he finally got the message and left me alone. I didn't want to be rude but on the other hand I would never consider bothering someone while they were setting up their site or hooking up their rig. I don't know, maybe I was the rude one?

I understand what you are saying. It seems to bother me more when I am getting read to pull. It sure does slow down the process when you have to visit and try to remember everything.

I really don't think you were rude. We all get caught sometimes in the situation you describe. We just have to make the best of it as you did. I think most of us who have been RVing for awhile understand the importance of not being disturbed when we are setting up and preparing to leave a site. There are numerous things we look for and do and we usually have a routine for that. When we get thrown out of cadence things can go wrong. Joe

Most experienced RVers know we all have our routine, and are csreful to leave you alone because interrupting that routine can result in mistakes.

Not rude at all. When we were backing into the spot we're in now, we had to back around a trailer. Essentially, we had to back off the street and back in a U turn to get in our spot. We had so many "helpers" that I finally had to get out and tell the crowd to let me wife give me the only directions. Some got mad a walked away, but as you, we've got a routine that works. After being here 5 months, one little old man still won't talk to me. All I can say is, he'll just have to scratch his mad spot and get glad. I was as polite as possible, but I was getting frustrated with all the "help".

We do exactly the same thing. We tell people we have a set routine and once we're done we'll come say hi. If that makes them mad, they're not someone we wanted to know anyway.

A fixed set-up and tear-down routine is absolutely necessary to prevent possible damage and for safety. Getting interrupted could cause BIG problems while we're checking and double checking. I speak from experience as I missed a critical check once and the trailer dropped onto my bed rails then the ground. I was interrupted during my routine and while the incident was 100% my fault, it may have been avoided if the chatty visitor hadn't been there. Safety is my first concern.

This was, by far, the most difficult place we have backed into in the last 8 years. Imagine what it was like with 15 people telling you when, where, bla, bla, bla to turn, etc. Carol got so frustrated, she just walked away. We use our phones and 2 way radios and have a pretty good system down pat. Sometimes, being rude just comes with the experience.

I think it's rude for anyone to bother you when you are trying to work and you didn't ask for their help. So you aren't rude, they are, how about that? I have been known to explain nicely, that I'm concentrating and busy and learning and I'll be glad to visit when I'm done but for now LEAVE US ALONE. I do try and explain things nicely and they typically get the message. Otherwise if they think YOU are rude, then you won't need those kinds of acquaintances or deserve to be rude in return.

I just tell them give me 15 minutes and we'll have a beer.

I don't think it is rude, there aren't any offical rv laws but to ignore someone who is talking would be rude in my moms book of rules.

I don't know guys...Three days ago I pulled up and both "future neighbors" came out to greet me. It doesn't bother me. I just start my proceedure/check list all over again and try not to hurry.

I will concur with the routine, once I arrive or when I'm ready to leave, "don't bother me"! But, with that said, I will say, with the Level-up system, it sure is easier setting up but when leaving (hooking up) I really don't like being bothered. We generally camp with a few friends and those folks don't have level-up systems, so I do go over and help them place boards/blocks etc. and help them to stop at the right place when there wheels are on top of the stack! Otherwise I leave everyone else alone and start a conversation once they're all setup.

Hi

That routine thing goes for parking as well. The help you get some times is detrimental to your health. We will get down rite rude in that situation. I have gone as far as having the unsolicited helper watch on the side with all the clearance with the instruction to yell if I get to close the rig located a football field away. That works every time. LOL

I REALLY enjoyed the guy that came out to tell me where he wanted OUR rig placed on the site so he would have more shade. After my comments to him he made himself scarce.

Yes, I experienced this first hand. Back in the M/H days I left the emergency brake engaged because my buddy came over to visit while I hooked the car to the M/H. In short I had an expensive repair of rear brakes of car because the rear brakes burned. Now I actually say, "Excuse my rudeness but I must concentrate on my job. I will be happy to visit with you later."

This may work for you, when setting up don't say a word and act like you and your wife are deaf and use hand signals! When you are all done, then resume talking and introduce yourself to your new neighbors! If that doesn't give you a fun intro to your neighbors then nothing will!!!
