Tandem with a 2955RL
New to this forum, have an 04 2955RL.
I want to pull a trailer behind the 2955RL. A small utility trailer
with a Honda Goldwing on board. Total weight would be below 1500 lbs
with a tongue weight below 170 lbs.
Has anyone out there mounted a receiver behind their 5th? Any pictures? Is there a bolt-on kit available?
I understand the legalities behind this configuration so that is not
of concern to me.....
Thanks for any information
Don

Just loaded some photos of the hitch on my 2002 3295rk. You gave me a good reason to go out and take a few shots. The hitch is welded to the longitudinal frames and has a gusset to the back cross member. I am sure it is strong enough to tow what you are looking to tow. If you need some more info on my setup I will respond tomorrow AM.

Larry,
As they say, pictures are worth 1000 words! Looks like you have a
good system. With your permission, I'd like to print these shots and
look for a shop that can handle this type of request.
I really appreciate you taking your time to run out and snap these
photos!
Thanks!!

The Hidden Hitch Model 82201 is a bolt-on 2" receiver that many of us have installed. Google will identify numerous location where it can be purchased.
I am pretty sure this has been discussed in the past with pictures. Oz posted pics of his installation. Try a "search" with the keywords "hidden hitch" or "bicycle rack" and see if it pops up.

I have a hitch on our 03 Mountaineer and tow our two quads. Total weight trailer and quads is around 1800lbs. We have had no problems. Because we have a rear bumper the hitch setup is different from what you will need.

Here is a Hidden Hitch bolted onto our 2955RL. We use it for a bike rack. Hidden Hitch
I am not going to suggest it is strong enough to pull a trailer with a bike on it. The hidden hitch is ok for a couple of bikes. There is some wiggle or spring in the bolt on hitch. A welded hitch would be better.
On Edit: When I say we haul bikes they are bicycles.

Goldwingman, If you need any measurements or better photos I could take some in the AM as the rig is about 10 ft from my garage door. Let me know as it is not a problem. I don't know what the hitch was used for as it was on the rig when I bought it this past July. I work alot with metal and I believe it is what you are looking for.

Goodwingman
You should have no problem towing that in CA, but you need a Class A licence, comercial or non comercial, and some states don't allow it. Max. lenght is 65".
I built mine a little different, I also mounted the hitch at the end of the frame, but I extended the center reciever about 2' back and install another cross brace to give more trosional strenght and prevent twisting the frame.
Good luck if you need photos let me know.

I thought Lippert said "no" to putting a hitch on the back of our rigs??? The new Montanas come with a small hitch and very limited capability. FWIW, I'd check with Lippert.

Keystone will put a hitch on the back but they'll tell you it's not for towing - just for a bike rack or similar use.

Thank you for all the replys on this topic. All this info gives me a good start on my project. I was told about a local shop that has performed many installs on 5th wheels and will follow up on them in the near future. For reference, in the Auburn area of Northern CA. I was given the name Bast metals.
Thanks again everyone!
