Unlimited data - how to use it

I bought an old plan with unlimited data before the time ran out. Now I need suggestions on the best way to access it. It's a 450 minute no text plan with a weird phone number so I don't want to put it on my phone. All suggestions needed please. We have no satellite and I was hoping to use my roku through my unlimited data at campgrounds that don't have cable. I don't want to add another expense by buying a dish and paying for service..... We still have a stick house and all the bills that go with it....

Thank you and Merry Christmas!!!

Hey Anna,
This is what I was told when I acquired my unlimited plan. If you have a sim card simply purchase a 4G Mifi device on ebay. If you don't have the sim card you'll need a phone to take into Verizion to purchase a sim card (It is my understanding you can't purchase a SIM w/o a phone). Only the newer smart phones use sim cards your current phone may already have one. In that case just tell the guy at the counter you'll be using that phone with the new number until you can find a used phone to purchase. I was told to not say anything about putting the SIM in a mifi device as Verizion won't like that answer even thought the FCC says that can't control your usage in that manner (which I haven't confirmed).

Next answer is sell the house and all the bills that go with it and take on a whole new set of bills that go with the Fulltime lifestyle. LOL.

Good luck.
dave

Thank you. That sounds doable - the phone stuff. We aren't quite ready to give up our stick house. My husband has another year to work and then we will see. I'm just planning ahead and getting everything ready.

Merry Christmas!

Anna,

I am in the same boat, my phone has unlimited data plan and Wife and I share the 450 minutes. I just bought a new battery for my old phone, and reloaded it because it was getting slow.

I run FoxFi on my phone, and it turns my phone into Internet Router, so my computers can connect to the Internet via my phone. I have Cradle Point router, that will use my phone or campground Wifi to connect to the Internet. If I didn't need my phone, I can stick the phone SIM card into my Cradle Point, and it will connect also, but normally I just use FoxFi.

Annaoinga: How did you get an unlimited data plan from Verizon? We have Verizon with our cell phones but they said no one has an unlimited data plan. We have 15GB of data each month plan and would love to have an unlimited plan!

Scott,

You can't get unlimited data anymore. If I ever want to upgrade you phone I will also lose it. I have Bionic Droid, that I got in Sept 2011. I pay $24.95 for unlimited data, and my wife who upgrade her phone only gets 2GB for $29.95. We share 450 talk minutes (non-Verizon call), but never been a problem since our kids also have Version.

Every time we talk to Verizon the want to change our plan. If we do we will pay more and lose the unlimited data on my phone.

I have one of the original unlimited plans from Verizion.. They will have to pry it from my cold dead hands before I give it up.. So when I want a new phone I will have to buy on open market and pay full price. I looked today and my usage was 40g with 4 phone tethered off it for part of the month.. I use Fox Fi on my Note 3 to turn into hot spot.. This works great for us..

Thanks for the info. Was wondering how you guys did that. I wouldn't let go of those plans either. Wish they still offered them, would be real nice.
