Rear bumper
Ideas and/or pictures please on rear bumpers you have installed. We would like another solutions for our bikes instead of hanging them off the rear ladder. Txs,

I have not seen anything regarding anyone putting a rear bumper on a Montana.

As far as I know, on the rear it's either the ladder or ad a receiver hitch if you don't have one.

Hi,
Yep, we have added rear carriers for the most part. Quite a few of us have had great success with them. You have to be careful and do a sturdy carrier, as they really get whiplash back there. I think some hang stuff on the ladder, but they aren't well made, or securely attached for anything heavy, certainly not bikes. Good luck with the project.

After returning home from our 8 week trip which started at 7 Feathers, I would NOT hang anything on the back.. good bumper rack or not. We traveled 8 weeks and never had a mishap.. But, when we got home.. the four hour trip from east of Auburn, CA on US-80 did in the glass cover on the refrigerator crisper. Totally shattered and the only thing on it was a small Tupperware type container with some salad in it.
I was leery of getting a rear kitchen.. but received many replies that they are not a problem. This may have been an anomaly, but..
I'll have to find out if it's worth going back to glass or get a piece of plexiglass to slide into the slots above the crispers.
My only bummer so far. I'm thankful for that.
All that to say.. with all that bouncin' n shakin' at the far end of that cantilever.. I'm going for something more toward the front.. like the front of the truck.

I've always wondered why that thing isn't clear plastic. Could be Lexan even. We've never broken one though with six different kinds of RVs.

Hi
We have the factory installed small recover for a bicycle rack on the back of the trailer. We haven’t found a bicycle rack that will hold up under use at the back of a trailer.
And on top of that we have now drug the back frame where the attach points are for the receiver in steep driveways. Somme times the way out is not the same as the way in.

Sorry to hear. We had 2005 rear kitchen for five years and never had a problem one. Maybe you hit some bad roads that we did not.

We never had good luck with rear bike racks even when we bought what we thought were good ones.

We have always carried our bikes on the rear with no problem. Every winter DW takes her car and follows me further south and says the bikes never move. Our previous SOB made it to Nova Scotia and back with bikes on rear. We now have a Swagman bike carrier. Our trip to Nova Scotia had a cheaper carrier

Probably haven't driven on portions of I-80  Probably like I-10 around Louisiana.
The big semis pound these highways.

Built my own hitch out of 2.5" 1/4" walled tube bolted to the frame with six 1/2" bolts. The bike rack was a Reese designed to be bolted under a hitch ball. I cut the end off and welded it to my hitch. Photo's were from my 2005 Montana, but it's now is bolted to my 2011.
