Yup. That's why I added "from the factory". I would sure hate to have to park one of those conversions.

Yes.. we had the mega cab not by choice. Our dealers only carried shortbed Rams..After the incident , we searched for a Laramie Longbed Dually, aisin, 4:10s, puck and auto level.. I cant believe NO DEALERS had this truck in stock. Even DAVE SMITH,the largest Ram dealer did not stock one Truck we we looking for!. Like I said, they did have many 'LITTLE KIDS TRUCKS". Short bed Cummins jacked up 30 feet in the air!. BUT NOT ONE TRUCK WITH THE MAX TOW EQUIPMENT. Hey!. Ram makes a truck capable of towing over 30,000 lbs!. JUST TRY AND FIND ONE!. Towbin in Las Vegas, nope, McPeeks in Southern California,NOPE, SACRAMENTO, RENO, OREGON, AND DAVE SMITH. NOPE!,, nope nope ,nope..
While on vacation in Idaho pulled into Peterson Dodge. They had a used 17 longhorn with 1200 miles.. 17000 off msrp!

Short bed without a slider have to constantly be aware.Every trip is different terrain and circumstances. Its that one time unusual situation and bang! There goes a rear window or cab.
I bought a 3500 long bed and I installed a B&W Companion and never have to worry about the unexpected.
Better safe then sorry.
Just my 2cents.

The choice and peace of mind is up to you. If your careful and are always paying attention then great. I have a short box Sliverado with a pullrite slider. I like it because when I am tired and not on my A game it gives me some safety. I have a tight turn to line my HC up to put in my building. Also if I had known in 2007 what I know now I would have probably got the long box. Just didn't want to have a crew cab that was a mile long. So I ended up with a 5er a mile long.

It’s always best to have a person behind standing to the side.

On my 4th Ford short bed pulling a 5er. Had a junk Reese slider, used the slider twice. Now have the B&W Patriot slider and used it once. Only times used was when backing extremely tight. Does the extra 3" on the Ford SB make a difference? No need for a LB unless towing a heavy PW and dually required, which is rare.

Buy a long bed and you don't have to worry about it! And you have more room other stuff like the Genny & extra full if you need it.
