GM 2500HD GVWR over 10k?
I've been window shopping new vehicles and I noticed that the 20 GMC 2500 trucks are now listed at 11,550 lbs GVWR. I previously thought that 250/2500 trucks were limited to 10,000 lbs. Can anybody with a GM 2500 confirm their GVW is over 10k? Have any other manufacturers up their 250s/2500s?
I'm currently within all ratings on my truck with my 330RL as weighed, so as long as the payload is over 3800 lbs, I would be within specifications with one of these trucks. I'll still be checking the payload sticker before I buy and I'll likely still be getting something in the 350/3500 range, but it would definitely open up more choices.

I would look at a 3500 and see what it stickers at. price will be similar and ride almost identical. For us an F350 SRW would not have allowed the addition of the AUX fuel tank nor the W/D

GVWR's have been going up a little bit for several years. They are limited to what the rating says. Did you mean to say payload under 3800 lbs?
If the new rating is 11500 lbs. and the truck is about 8500 lbs. that would provide about 3000 lbs. of payload. You would need to know the weight of the truck to know for sure how much load it will take.

I did mean over 3800 lbs.
GM's website says the rear axle is rated at 6600 lbs and the max payload is listed at 3597 lbs for a crew cab long bed (which isn't going to happen for a well-optioned truck). My 16 Ram 3500 with the Bighorn trim, despite having a lower 10,800 GVWR, has a 7000 lb rear axle and a payload of 3860 lbs. Disclosure is that I have the 6.4 gas engine, which gives me more payload than a comparable diesel. That means if I want a diesel, which I do, I'll have to keep looking at the 3500s. That's a bummer since most dealers seem to have far more 2500s.
It's still surprising that a 2500 can have a GVWR that high. I suppose for a lighter 5th wheel it would work fine, but in my case I don't want to exceed my ratings. So when I do buy, I'll get a 3500 instead.

They have been making the 3/4 ton trucks like that for quite a while. You could order the 11,500 payload because most dealers here in California didnt want to tell the customer how much registration on that truck would be. Most dealers don't have the 11,500's on there lot. Even in the 1 ton trucks. Most have the 10,000 payload. Thats why I keep saying they are the same truck. Because they come with the same payload standard. You have to order the 11,500 package to get that truck. It mayt be different somewhere else. My reg on my 15 is still $650 for this year.

Mine has a GVWR of 12300 lbs. Weight is 8600 lbs. with the larger fuel tank full and hitch. Minus two bodies two dogs and misc. junk leaves a load capacity of about 3300 lbs. CA DMV fees were $646 last year.
I get a sense that the rear axle rating may be confusing the situation. A 2500 diesel even with an 11500 GVWR won't be close to reaching a 3800 lb. load, legally.

Those symbols after the payload refer you to the door jam sticker which shows the GVWR for that specific vehicle.
Which truck did you quote to get these numbers?

The 2020 gm trucks are pretty nice with the increased towing and payload. Those numbers are easy to find.... Chevrolet.com

Pulling is one thing putting heavy pin weight In the bed is another, these numbers for towing up to is with a properly equipped 3/4 ton truck.

Any weight you find on the internet on a manufacturer's web site is normally unrealistic. Check the door sticker on the driver's door, it will give you the actual cargo capacity for that truck....before you add things like hitch, passengers, cargo, etc.

You're not going to make it by-the-sticker if you need 3800 lbs.
I have a 2020 Chevy High County 3500 SRW CC SB, so as heavy as it gets in a CC SB. My truck, fuel of all liquids, fuel, DEF, etc, weighs 7898, so let's call it 8000 lbs. My truck has a door sticker of 3742 lbs of payload, so off the hop, my truck is below your 3800 number.
From the numbers that I saw when I was looking, the 2500 same model-to-model is going to be about 600 lbs less payload on the sticker, compared to the 3500 SRW...

I have been shopping new trucks as well, Chevy and GMC are now rated GVWR 11,550 on the 2500, they also have a 10 speed tranny now too!
Ford f250 has a trailer option which will increase the GVWR to 10,800, also 10 speed tranny...

I went with the 2020 GMC 3500 SRW, it can handle the load, and tow up to 21K, which is more than I need. DRWs are great but, you can't put them in a standard garage with another vehicle, and maneuvering around in town is a pain. If I were pulling anything close to 21K or high a DRW 3500 would be required. Very little difference in price, but the ride is a total upgrade from a 2500.

I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and have a Montana high country 380th toy hauler. Weight is 13,500 dry. Loaded up maybe 15,000. Put air bags on truck to. Made big difference for ride. Problem is motor 6.0 not enough for power going up hills. Can do it but but it's a slow climb lol. And motor really working. Not good gas mileage either 6-7 miles to gallon lol. Straight line 60-65 miles an hour about. 2020 trucks bigger motor. So if trade old truck for new one would be lot better.

Do you have a diesel? the 6.6 Duramax has a lot of power. The 2020s have a 10-speed Allison transmission and shift really smooth.

when I weighed my 2500 gmc with my Monty I was 7100 pounds on the rear axle. what is scary to me was the tires were rated at max payload of 3550 each tire so I was at the max weight load for the tires! I wasn't worried about able rating etc. but I did replace my truck with a heavy duty one. 2015 Cascadia freightliner. it was actually cheaper than a Ford f450

It’s not always about the tow, it’s about the weight in your bed and over the axles.
I’ll put my DRW anywhere, in BH they limit the parking lot space to less the 8’ wide it’s like 7’6.
