Hot water heater. Help.
Need help on hot water heater on the 2021 Montana 3762BP. Water heater attempts to light, however it goes for about 5 seconds, then repeats 3 times? This is the first time I have attempted to get hot water.
Any suggestions?
Happy trails.

You could have air in the lines, or you could have tripped the regulator if you opened the tanks too fast.

How do you get the air out of the line?

In the files section there is a Suburban water heater manual
https://www.montanaowners.com/forums...hp?do=cat&id=3
Press both reset buttons.
Make sure the outside switch is on.
Make sure the tank is full. Lift The little handle on the expansion valve above the reset buttons. If water comes out, the tank is full.
The water heater will NOT light if the water temperature is above 100⁰F. That's in the troubleshooting manual.
I had the same problem.
I ran the hot water until it was cold then it lit off in propane mode.
For electric mode, make sure the tank is full, turn on the outside switch, turn on the inside switch. Wait 30 minutes.

Do you have your gas switch on in your inside convenience center, the electric side mite have a bad tstat that’s behind those reset buttons. I had to replace my tstats about 6months ago.

This is assuming you have a Suburban water heater. Not Atwood.
The only common element of water heater for both gas and electric is 12 vdc to the inside control switches and to the 12 vdc powered control board on the water heater itself.
How are you determining it tries and “it goes for about 5 seconds”?
When you try on gas, have someone actuate the switch inside while you listen outside for the popping sound of the igniter sparking. If no spark you may have a bad control board or no power to the control board.
The 120 vac electric heating element is also controlled by that same board.

I beg to differ, the AC element is not associated with the Ignitor board. It goes through a relay mounted on the rear corner of the heater and uses the inside switch to activate said relay to supply 120 AC.
I've beef through three Suburban Hot Water Heaters in three 5th Wheels.

Turn off both propane valves on the cylinders.
Remove and reinstall the lines to both cylinders.
Open the valves on both cylinders VERY SLOWLY.
Go inside and light a burner on the stove and let it burn a bit.
Then turn on the gas mode on your water heater. It may take more than one cycle to finally light, but usually will work the first time.

You are correct. I disremembered the schematic. The relay shows up on the 12 vdc schematic along with the control board, but the only common point is the ground connection of both.
So 12 vdc to the inside switches is the only common element between propane and electric if both switches are from a common fuse, and the 12 vdc ground connection to the water heater itself.
No hot water on propane or electric seems to indicate it is not a propane issue, unless there is more than one problem.

In addition to the circuit breaker, there is also a fuse in back of the switch on the back of your interior control panel. Check it with a meter. Make sure it is pushed all the way down into the holder. I had one back out on me. Thought it was in all the way. Pushed it in another 1/4".

This might sound silly but make sure the by pass valve on your water heater is closed .

Water Heater update.
Finally I have got the water heater on the 2021 Montana 3762 BP to work on electric. Still not able to get gas to work. I will not quite. We do have an appointment for 8 Oct. However we make cancel it, quite a drive to Olive Springs Mississippi. We will see!
I beginning to think the lines are full of air. However the stove, and Fridge work on gas?????
Any suggestion?
Happy trails.

Yea!!
Works in electric Mode.
Ok just for giggles, does your furnace work. The reason I ask is both the water heater and the furnace requires high volumes of gas. If the furnace doesn't work either, you may have a weak regulator.
You can switch propane tanks by turning the auto switching valve to point towards the other tank. It is on a different regulator.
Whenever you open the valve on the tank open it really sloooowww. If you open it too fast the safety valve inside will shut off.

Thanks for the comments. We have never use this 5th wheel. The stove works, however have not tried the heat. Will try that for sure.
Happy trails.
