Route from California redwoods to I-80
I am looking for the safest way to navigate from the California redwoods to I-80 with out having to travel any real steep winding mountain roads.I am thinking traveling north east to pick up I-5 ( I think). Any suggestions would be appreciated . Thanks to all in advance, Keiyh

You are also talking FROM there. What route are you taking to getting there? That will also help us figure how to get out. You might have to be concerned about the route getting to I-5 depending on where you are.

Heading from slc, ut to Boise, along Columbia river over to Oregon. Then travel down the coast to take in sights, parks, camp along the way. To Redwood National park, then to work our way back to slc via Tahoe. Thanks for the help. Would going to Sacramento to pick up I-80 be possible ??

Highway 20 running on the north side of Clear Lake is ok. This will take you to Willaims then to 80. It is a little windy and rough in spots but ok.. That would be assuming you take Highway 101 down to Ukiah Ca.. That road is good.

Redwoods national park... To Tahoe
Continue down the coast on hwy 101 to Petaluma, Ca and get on highway 116 to highway 12 to I-80 which would be near Fairfield, Ca.
Take I-80 into Sacramento to Highway 50 to Lake Tahoe.

Myna,
i think you might mean 116, Lakeville Hwy to Hwy 37, east to I80. Hwy 12 runs east/west through Santa Rosa/Sonoma to I80. It's a poor choice to tow due to many stops/traffic and small towns.

Ron and Larry,
20 is also a good route, done that one many times too. Quite a bit shorter trip as well coming from the north

I agree with Brenkco, Hwy-20 from Hwy-101 (south of Laughlin) to I-80 (near Emigrant Gap) is a nice scenic road and avoids the ugliness of the interstate roads through Sacramento.

THANK YOU to every one for all of your reply's. I will now take a look at my options knowing that many of you have driven these roads and seem to be comfortable with them.
