Tires

A lot of problems and cures. Most trailer tires have a SPEED rating of 60 or 65 MAX. End of story.

I fully agree. I sometimes count the rigs passing me when we travel and it's frankly too many to keep track of all day long. When you're leaving Indiana most of the rigs passing at 80 or more are haulers pre-damaging tires before the owner gets a chance to.

Agree, many drive too fast and push tires too hard. We watched a neighbor in Florida leave after 5 months sitting on his site and he never even checked the air pressure. Tire problems can often be the result of headspace or unfamiliarity with tire maintenance and tire capacities.

Another reason to own the Goodyear G 614! I can drive at 70 (conditions permitting of course) and not worry about exceeding any design specs.

Just keep this in mind: After working in the tire industry, I can tell you positively that the top 3 causes of RV tire failure are: 1-Failure to run adequate tire pressure 2-Running old, weather-cracked tires that are beyond their life (though they have adequate tread depth remaining). 3-Exceeding the manufacture load rating. Don't make any of these 3 mistakes and you eliminate most risk of catastrophic tire failure.

That's why ST tires should not be put on campers that are going to be run on interstates with 75 MPH speed limits. I use LT tires they have a speed rateing of hundred or so. Even I'm not going to exceed that.

I am going to try the Discount Tire Company's Hartland G Series rated at 4000 +. Goodyear's G at 370 a tire seems rather steep, and I have had good luck dealing with Discount tire for all my needs in the past. Blew two of the Marathons that were 3 years old and ruined the aluminum rim. Am also going to replace rims with chrome steel rims rated at 4000.

people will continue to NOT use goodyear G614s.....to bad, a great tire. $370 for a G614 is a fair price.

Yes they are a good tire, great, not according to the reported failures. IMHO the price is outrageous, compared to another brand of tire that has had better reviews then the G614.

I too run run G614's ,but that will change

Just put a set of Hartland Gs on my brand new 3160RL. 4080lbs max load, "M" speed rating(81mph). And no, you won't see me towing over 70.
Pretty much a Gladiator clone. Time will tell, but I think they'll suit our RVing lifestyle just fine.

Great move,Their are some very good alternatives out there to G614's ,me and my buddy With a SOB have been running G rated Geostar G574 LT's from Les Schwab Tire here out West for 3 years now and thousands of miles and bad roads and Love them,You folks that spend the big bucks on the Goodyear's more power to ya they are a proven dang good tire but now they have other great G rated tires for less Cash available and are getting great reviews, Discount Tire and Les Schwab tire are great companies and have never steered me wrong yet

7 years on G614's.No problems until I let the first set stay for 6 plus years. My bad! Tires not at fault. I will continue to run them until I stop hauling a 5er. Paid less than $370 and now am waiting for an $80 rebate check from Goodyear to boot.

I respectfully disagree. $370 may be a "good" price as compared to other sellers but it is not a "fair" price. As long as people pay the price it will also continue to go up and up.

I agree that the China bombs should be replaced with better tires but Goodyear is nuts!

Buy G614 today on Amazon for $313. A couple of weeks ago for $308. Free shipping.
Buy what works for you and lets you sleep well. Name an RV item that is 'fair priced' - fridges perhaps?
A G614 is a one size, low volume, US made tire. Its become the target that the competition aims for.
So everybody wins, those that want a G614 will pay the price, those that purchase the lower priced competitors can thank Goodyear for creating a market that allows other suppliers to offer competing products.

I've used the sailun s637's for over 2yrs and over 12,000 miles with no issues. My rig weighs 16,200 loaded per cat scales on account of independent suspension and disc brakes. These tires are now rated on the st tires at over 4,000 pounds and 75 mph speed rated.

You know, there's a lot of marketing truth in that. Time will tell which ones to avoid and which ones are a decent value.
