advise for new truck tires

Need some advise on buying new tires for my chevy 2012 2500 HD ext cab truck. Will be in Colorado winters, when not towing 3402 Big Sky in the spring and fall. Any hints or suggestions? Thanks, Bud

Since I do off road with our truck, I use an off road Goodyear tire and I buy them from Walmart and get their road hazard protection. Since we travel all over the US I can usually limp to a Walmart somewhere. I've always lived in the boonies and have used all season tires on my trucks with good success. BF Goodrich, Hancook and Goodyear have all done well for me.

For years we have used Firestone TransForce tires with no problems.

Went with all-season tires last summer vs. all-terrain since I don't do much more off roading than gravel roads. Noticed a distinct improvement in mileage and quieter ride.

Another vote for Firestone Transforce H/T. First set of replacements on my '07. Holding up well. I didn't buy on-line.

My daughter bought on line. Got a great price but what a PITA waiting for them to ship, getting to a tire dealer to mount and balance. The tire dealer charges pretty good because he's not making a penny on the tires. She did buy the road hazard and has used it 3 times. (Loves to hit curbs and chuck holes.) All three tires have been replaced no questions ask. But the shipping, mounting, and balancing remain a PITA. For the reasons stated I would not buy on line. Jim

If I was buying a set today I would consider a Bridgestone Duravis R500HD because of my satisfaction with the Duravis R250 on my trailer.

My next choice would be a Toyo Open Country H/T with Tuff Duty. It might not have enough of a open tread for snow country, but the tire is made for diesel pick-ups with high torque applications such as towing. The tread is 17/32 vs 14/32 on most 235/80/17

With our new truck I had Michelin A/T 2 tires that I wasn't very happy with them as they were very poor tires on snow and ice, plus I had poor tire wear. This October I bought Good Year LT 265/70R18 AT Adventure tires. Just put on 5,000 highway miles on tires and I'm very happy with them.
They have excellent snow and ice traction, and are smooth and quite on the highway.

I hope you are not hauling too much weight with those Goodyear tires. They have a load index of 116, which is a load rating of 2756 lbs. The Michelin tires have a load index of 124, which gives them a load capacity of 3527 lbs. I would have replaced mine last year with something else, but the load capacity numbers put me into another set of the Michelin's.

I'm on my second set of replacements. running Firestone TransForce A/T's. They're doing well, run quiet on the highway. I was especially surprised how well they do in sand while running at max. pressure of 80#. They are my second choice however. First choice goes to Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's, but they are pricey. I got long wear and traction second to none with those.

Rohrmann, I don't know which Goodyear tires your talking about, but the tires I have on my truck are the Goodyear A/T Adventure Lt 265/70R/18 - 124/121S load range 3526 (single). As I identified in my post the truck came with Michelin tires and the Goodyears have exactly the same load range as the Michelin 3526 single. As I see it the difference between the Michelin and Goodyear I have is that the Goodyear is excellent on snow and ice and the Michelin is terrible on snow and ice.

We use Cooper Discover HT. Have had good luck with them. On our second set in 154000 miles.
