Glacier National Park

Has anyone towed the Monty from Coeur D Alene to Glacier Natioal Park on HWY 2 and if so where did you stay.

A lot of rv parks on the west side of Glacier from Kalispell to West Glacier. Just a few on the east side. Depends on how close you want to be to the park and what hookups you require/need. We stay at North American RV park all summer in Coram (abt 5 mi from west entrance) KOA is there and a few others.

This is the 100 year anniversary of the park. May have some increase in visitorship. May be a good thing to check on reservations at a park you select.

We haven't towed that route, coming from the south to Glacier, instead. However, we stayed (and loved) Mountain Meadow RV Park in Hungry Horse. Here's a couple of pictures from and of our site.

We went from Langley, BC through Seattle last August. On over Hwy 90 and up to Soap Lake up to Grand Coulee dam and on over to Coeur D Alene and stayed at Blackwell Island RV Park, very nice and ate at the floating restaurant, very nice!. Then took Hwy 2 over to Mountain Meadows. It was a very comfortable trip. We would certainly stay at MM again.

We took hwy 2 from East Glacier to Newport several years ago and from there we picked up hwy 20 over to Whidbey Island and thought it was a pretty good road. Along the way we stayed in Winthrop Wa, a must see town if you are on hwy 20. And from there over to the west the mountains are something special.

We have planned our trip to Glacier National Park. We will be leaving the first part of June and going up through Oregon, Yakima, Washington, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho up through Cranbrook, British Columbia to Banff National Park. After that over to Calgary, Alberta and then down to St. Mary, Montana.

Ron, Sandi and I towed our 340 over that way on our "maiden voyage" last fall.. Found several campgrounds along the way... KOA @ West Glacier is nice. Take your time and enjoy the scenery. If you do decide to go a little further North (US-93), we found a Kool Forest Service Campground near Lk. Koocanusa (Just out of Rexford, Mt.). Sandpoint, Id. area North of C-D'land is beautiful.. both F.S. and Private Campgrounds along the way.

Ron, We made a similar Glacier trip in 08. If possible you should spend a couple of days in Waterton Park. It's the Canadian side of GNP and not too far from St. Mary. Great campgound, lots of wildlife right in the park, and great scenery in that area. We pulled the 5'er up to Jasper from Banff. Not sure I would do that again but would make an overnight trip from Banff, to Lake Louise, to the Columbian ice fields without the rig. Enjoy. You and Rose are in for some great scenery. Jim

On your way south out of Calgary make a right turn not too long before you get to the border. While you're out that direction you should visit Waterton National Park. It is the northern part of Glacier National Park. I'd recommend you take one of the boat rides into the US. We really enjoyed the ride. We were lucky and caught a windless day. The lake was like glass and the views were outstanding.

There is a CG right in the heart of the park. There is also a commercial park just outside the park. It is rather 'rustic' but worked for us. It was windy at the park one day and blew over our Hughes Satellite Dish. But otherwise it was a good place.

We also took a trip up to the top of the mountain and visited one of the glacier melt lakes. Absolutely gorgeous!

On your way to Banff you go through a little town called Revelstoke. There is a nice CG on the west side of town almost right on the river. All grass with a lot of trees. On Saturdays they have a great Farmers Market. I assume you'll be staying in the massive Tunnel Mountain CG on the southeast side of town.

Thanks, everyone. We plan on Lake Louise and the Columbian ice fields. We will also try to spend a night in Waterton Park. When we leave St. Marys we will be going back to Alberta and across Canada 1 to visit some people in Regina, Saskatchewan, then over to Winnipeg, Monatoba, down through the Dakotas into Nebraska for the Rally. After that we will go to Woolstock, Iowa for a reunion and then down into Kansas across 70 over to Idaho Springs, Colorado. From there to Moab, Utah, then to Bryce National Park. We plan on being gone from June 1st thru Aug. 14th.

Wow! You have an ambitious schedule! When you get to the Ice Fields be sure to take the "buggy" ride! It is marvelous. Ron we missed going to Jasper when we were up that direction. We understand that is a "not to be missed" location.

Don't know if you are into dinosaurs or not but if you are then you must visit the museum in Drumheller. It is about 50 or 60 miles northeast of Calgary. It is absolutely a World Class operation.

When visiting Waterton National Park did any of you have reservations or just take your chance.
We will only to be able to spend one nightat Waterton.

We did not stay in the Park. We did drive through the Park CG and it was FULL! I'd suggest reservations even for just one night.
