Patching a Goodyear G614

Second time out with my trailer and I got a good size nail in tire, leaked half the air out. Anyone have any luck patching these tires ? Not it side wall but very outer thread..
Thanks

There is no reason this tire cannot be repaired. Any good tire shop should be able to remove the tire from the rim and put a boot over the nail hole on the inside of the tire. Plugs are rarely used anymore and on this particular steel tire would not be recommended I am sure. It should be as good as new with no further worry.

I agree with Ed. If the hole is not too close to the side it can be patched from the inside, wouldn't worry about it at all

Very outer tread may make it unfixable, but if it's not too close to the sidewall repairing a 614 is no problem.

I use stem or plug patches on our law enforcement vehicles. The method is endorsed by Goodyear. IMO, it's the best method as opposed to a plug from the outside. Here's a short video explaining why:

To answer the original question, you should be able to reliably repair a G614 just as any other tire.

Sometimes radial tires will not hold patches near the edge of tread. I think they roll too much

If only because of the cost of tires, it is well worth the attempt to repair it.

One other thought, use plug patch and also put in an inner tube.

Down here in st Petersburg Fl, most of the major dealers refuse to plug and don't want to patch. They want to sell new tires.
