Sacramento to Fort Bragg

Planning a trip via Sacramento Ca to Fort Bragg Ca. I am about 40 miles East of Sacramento and want to know the best route to Fort Bragg. Want the best towing route, not concerned with the shortest or fastest route. I hear some of the roads in that area are not the best for a 38 ft 5th wheel.

Hi Frank,

Take 5 to Williams. Then take Hwy 20 all the way. 20 runs up 101 from Ukiah to Willits. It turns left at Willis for about 30 miles to Ft. Bragg. That 30 miles is somewhat slow but doable. It's the truck route to the coast.

When are you going? We'll be there next Sunday for a few days.

Ken - we are planning on taking 101 North from Petaluma to 128. We have never done it with the rig and it has been quite a few years since we drove that way, will that way be okay with the 5th wheel?

Jim & Vicki,

I have done both 128 out of Cloverdale and 20 from Willits. There are some severe switch backs just outside of Cloverdale on 128. It is doable but I prefer 20 as I think it is easier.

Most of 101 to Willits is 4 lane, 55 mph and an easy ride. Hwy 20 from Willits to Ft Bragg is slow but only 30 miles. Hwy 128 to Ft Bragg is beautiful, just 2 lanes all the way.

BTW, if you go 20, it dead ends at Hwy 1. For Pomo, turn left and go south about a mile. Pomo is on the left. Sign is there but can be hard to spot!
