Traveling with company
For the full timers or long timers, do you normally travel alone or with other rigs. DW and I will be heading out soon and just wondering.

We are long timers (5-6 months) usually we travel alone. It is easier for us that way. Hard to find people that travel like we do. We start early 6:30 and end early 1:30-2:30. This has worked good for us. Have had a few couples that travel with us the same way.

We travelled up the East Coast with my sister and BIL. Had a ball, takes a little more planning when looking for a site, but a lot of fun. My sister just celebrated her 75th birthday so was a real treat for her and I to be together so much. We also travelled the Oregon Coast with them the first year we RVd, again a lot of planning to find sites together or at least in the same park. Cell phones and a GOOD PLAN are essential elements......We even seperated for days an met up at a park later.........Different strokes for different folks.......

John,
How are you and Dale doing? Glad to hear that you're getting back on the road.

We've always traveled alone. Spur of the moment changes in itinerary usually keeps us alone. However, if I was traveling to Alaska, I'd much prefer traveling with at least one other couple. Just for watching out for one another.

We travel alone. Even though we also belong to an RV club and camp with a group. When the club camping is scheduled we travel along to get to the scheduled campground.

We travel alone but always find friends along the way. With this forum, Escapees and Face Book we know pretty much where everyone is.

Caravaning can be fun, communications a must. We have done in large groups and with just one other rig.
Same travel mode, as lots of potty stops, leaving certain hour, stopping for lunch or not, all those things, are better if agreed on in advance or every body is like totally relaxed and flexible in those areas. Some times the one couple will say, ok, you lead, you stop, we will stop, we will need fuel in 50 miles, we will need a potty stop every 2 hours, stuff like that. Then, off we go, frequently chatting away via cell phones, or these days, computer/smart phone/email/facebook.
We have even met up with other couples at a campground, but, not driven together for various reasons.
All can be done, all can be fun, or can be a downer if not prepared.
That said, caravaning is a very very small part of our travel days.

We have found it is much easier to meet our friends or family at the destination and not travel with them. We have found this to be true by RV as well as by just car. Everybodys travel habits are so different. The longer the trip the easier it is for somebody to get frustrated (typically me )

We will travel with friends occasionaly, but we also follow the schedual, and all members of the group have been very good about sticking with the schedual, we usually will depart at 0830 hrs. to miss morning work trafic, and will do about 300 miles at the most for one days driving which usualy brings our group into the reserved ahead of time campground.
We have found that in and emergency its always nice to have a friend around for support. although we have had none so far.
