Santa Rosa to Truth or Consequences NM

In October we will be taking 54 out of Santa Rosa and thinking about cutting over to I 25 via Hwy 380 or if need be a longer route to Almagordo and cutting over on 70. What are the roads like, which would you recommend? Thank you.

We just drove that route last winter. We stayed on 54 all the way to Almagordo and on to Los Cruse, NM Roads were great. Don't forget to go to White Sands National Monument while you are there. Well worth the time.

I haven't done all of 54 on that route but in 2003 we took 380 from Roswell to I25 at San Antonio. It is mountainous but a very pretty drive.

If you take 54 you'll be too far west for this but a bit farther east on 380 is Lincoln, NM. Billy the Kid territory. If you end up in Lincoln I recommend you take a few minutes to walk the two or three blocks and read all the historical plaques. Interesting.

This picture was taken on the stretch of 380 you're considering:
