Found a Nut!!
While getting packed for nest trip, I was in the front basement. Found a nylock (?) nut by the battery case. Hmm. Then I looked up and saw the box shaft shear pin/1/4-20 screw by the landing gear motor working its way loose and up against the motor housing! Yikes. Tightened it down and added the nut. Pays to look around sometimes?!!!

Glad you found it. I had to use an allen wrench with the long edge taped to the shaft when I broke mine until I got spares.

Always pays to check all parts of the rig on a regular basis. When you live in a rolling earthquake stuff will come loose. Glad you were able to find it before it let you know.

I have some spares but all of them manage to hit the motor when the shaft rotates. I've tried different nuts and different length bolts and combinations of those. If I could find a nut shorter than anything I've tried I'd be in business. The motor is showing where the nut hits it. Eventually it will wear through if I don't get this figured out.

I called Lippert and got the right sizes, and hardness for all of them.

Steve after you insert the 10 hard bolt lock washer and nut take a 4" grinder. Grind off the bolt and the nut until you have your clearance. It somewhat welds the nut to the bolt. It was still working when I traded it in. Jack

Thanks, Jack. With the current arrangement the bolt does not extend beyond the nut so I'd be grinding just the nut. That's a great idea. Now to find a 4" grinder or drill attachment. Limited tool availability is one of the hazards of fulltiming. I may have a small grinding wheel for my drill that would do the job.
