Discount Campground Clubs

We had an interesting experience today. We had entered a contest to win a pickup truck at a recent camper show. You know the type - they ask you to fill out a form and then put your names into a drawing for the prize. Well, as expected, they called and told us that we could come and see if the key sent to us opened the lock. Yea, sure. It was a lovely day for a ride and we thought we could get another perspective on HD trucks in spite of the sales offering that we predicted. We were surprised to see it was a discount campground club called Outdoor Adventures giving us the high pressure pitch. We had not heard of these types of clubs and were interested in what they had to offer. However, their ridiculous cost kept us from really considering it.

So, as soon as we got home, we decided to research these types of clubs on MOC forum. We went to the RV Related Links section at the bottom of the homepage and began our journey. Having visited many of the web sites, we now wish to get opinions from the experts. So here goes. Do many of you belong to groups like Coast To Coast, Camp USA and so forth? They offer reduced campsite rates at a great number of places as well as other opportunities. Some require a membership in a home campground which is what Outdoor Adventures was offering to us. Then you pay a yearly dues to get access to the wide variety of locations. Which clubs do you like? What are the pros and cons of these?

Thanks for all your help!

We are members of Outdoor Adventures. You must be from Michigan too to hear from them. We joined them several years ago before I retired and was still earning and the price was much lower. We purchased this with retirement in mind. Through them, we are members of C2C, Resorts of Distinction, and AOR. We use these membership parks regularly and save because of them. We also are members of Passport America, $49 + or - a year and have been traveling since early January on this trip and averaging $10 and change per night for camping. If you are interested, you might look into buying a used membership from someone who wants to get rid of theirs. That would be a real cost savings. Enjoy that 3400 whatever you do. - Jim

We have Passport America and it has paid for its self many times over. Camp USA are mostly the same campgrounds so we didn't join it. Of course we get Good Sam discounts as we are life members. We recently joined Freedom (25% discount on CG and hotels) and Recreation USA (mostly $10 per night, many unlimited stay) as a trial. We'll see how they work out. The clubs are good to have for one nighters as many have limits. If you like a really luxury type CG, you probably will not be happy with some of these. We do not use pool, showers, etc. so we like the less than luxury CG.
Happy trails......................

We are Coast to Coast, Good Sam and Passport America- Each has their niche in our travels- We use all mostly for overnite or week-end stops- We avoid KOA and resort campgrounds because we feel they are too pricey for our needs- We rarely use the pool, hot tub, showers and game rooms, so why pay for them? What works for you may be very different- JMHO- Don
