Judy, you could ask your dealer to order you the handles, and SPECIFY the year. In fact, I think when Al ordered them, they had a photo of them, or something, he looked at it, and they ordered and it was exactly right. You just cannot order "handles", or like some have pointed out, you are likely to get the current ones, which are pretty, but don't match our units. Just another idea.

Nice to hear you got a good match on the stain! OH YEA!

We purchased some handles/pulls that would work just fine but we've elected to not put any on at this time. We can always revert back to the ones we have if we choose to add them. Thanks for the info tho.

I also added doors under the stove and under the bottom desk drawer on our 3295RK. Home Depot and Lowe's at that time offered the exact same custom doors from the same third party company and at the same price. We paid $47 for two doors to my specs and stained to match the montana. I bought spring loaded hinges that match the other hardware in our Montana. Spring loaded because I want the doors hinged at the bottom, to open downward, making access to the area behind the doors much easier. The spring loaded hinges keep the doors closed when they are supposed to be closed. No latches or pulls required this way.

Ours will look like yours, Steve, with no pulls. We didn't put spring loaded hinges on them but otherwise they open the same way.

Our 3880 RL had an empty space between the oven & the fridge. It was just big enough for a pull-out three shelf pantry. I found the hardware on the net, and a front at Lowes. Ellie was happy.

I bet Ellie was happy. We ladies like every little space in the kitchen that we can get!

One word of caution, which will be very elementary for all experienced woodworkers. When you put stain on hard oak, start with VERY light coats of the stain/finish. We're using the poly/stain blend that was discussed earlier and, even though I knew to put it on lightly, it was still too much. It ran like water. No harm done but we were more careful with the second coat.

They're done! We installed the two doors and they look great. Glen did a wonderful job and the stain matches really well. They look just like the other doors and that was our goal. http://i3.tinypic.com/xnrn0g.jpg

Thanks, Carol, we're very pleased that they turned out so well. I was amazed at how well Glen could replicate the drawer fronts. I think he surprised himself as he hasn't done a lot of woodworking.

I really like the idea of the drawers and do appreciate all the information on the stain color. I will be picking up my 3400 the end on the 19th. I have a list of improvements I want to accomplish this summer, most of the ideas I got from this forum. Thanks for all the suggestions.

We unscrewed the cover under the frig. We can use this cover instead of having one made. Two hinges (self closing) at the bottom. The area is carpeted in our unit. Only a junction box at the very back - all enclosed. Lots of room. Now I know where to keep the electric skillet! We haven't done the one under the oven yet as we will have to have a front made for it.
Happy trails....................

Speaking of spaces not used in the 3400 (early 05 at least) there is a big empty space above the built in vacuum. Anyone done anything with this?

Thanks, Rickety. We had fun making them.

Army Guy, you'll soon find out the truth about the saying, "If you have an RV, you don't need a hobby".

Sue, Your opening cover under the frig must be different than ours. We just had the flimsy contact paper covered cardboard stuff over ours. Glen just punched it out and it's only as thick as cardboard. Thus the oak covers.

Yes Judy on the 3400 the piece under the frig is actually an oak front with four screws holding it on. I just need to find something to cover the screw holes now. I'm not sure they make wood plugs that small.
Happy trails.........................

Sue,
Are you going to the fall rally? I will have to park next to you as our 3400RL's have the very same layout and features. Need to take advantage of all those great upgrades you have done so far.

Get a small wooden dowel at Lowes or Home Depot (or maybe even a craft store) and cut it the right lengths and stick them (drive them) into the holes with some elmer's glue.

Parrothead, at last years rally in Indiana whan we toured the factory, Patti happened to obtain a jar of the finishing putty. It matches the wood perfectly and that is what I used to fill any holes, like when I moved a handle from the top to the side of a cabinet door. Call Keystone and see if they might sell this putty, it works great.

Steve, They told us it was wood putty, buy it at any hardware store, they use white for walls, etc and wood colored for the oak stuff. Knowing how Keystone does not sell anything to customers, I would be real surprised if they would sell this to Sue, but, hey Sue, let us know if they will!

I'm sure it is wood putty and we have some. The dowels are a good idea also - I was going for the buttons that come with wood towel racks, etc. We will do one or the other. Too small of a thing to bother Keystone with.
Happy trails.........................
