Right or left hand screen door latch? UPDATE
UPDATE, September 2: The replacement screen latch that fits my door is a RIGHT hand latch. It finally arrived today and took less than 5 minutes to install.
I should know the answer to this, but before ordering a replacement screen door latch kit (the black handle on the screen door), do I need the right hand latch or the left hand latch? Below is an exterior shot of my door and the handle.

I would call it a right hand.
Thank You very much.... Just looking at your entry handle on the "left side" of the door tells me I don't want to let go and open the door with my left hand. Not only the screen door but also unlocking and opening the hard door. Ok now will hear from the ambidextrous, stand on your head, how to do it. LOL... just kidding.

Logic would say it must be a "left hand" latch since it is on the left hand side of the door and frame. I honestly have never seen a door or screen that was hinged on the opposite side to what you have. Interesting question. My 1951 Monarch car had the rear "suicide" doors as they were called, I am sure some older folks will remember them.
The mystery continues...

You've got a right handed one look how it attaches to the door and compare it to this: http://www.amazon.com/RV-Designer-Co...en+door+handle

Well I should have went deeper with my explanation, If it is hinged on the right it is right handed plus you use your right hand to open it. If you have hinges on the left, it will be a left handed door because you use your left hand to open it. Back in the 60's when I was working in the Mobil Home business in Bristol Indiana, that is the way we were told to figure it out. Also in a NORMAL kitchen you want the door to open towards the sink. That way when you take something out of the refer you can take it directly to the counter beside the sink. Now stop and think about it, how many have you saw that were opening towards the D.R. or away from the sink? And in a narrow kitchen you have to close the refer door before moving. Sorry Carol. How's Dillon? I miss the Trout fest in Ennis the last 2 years. Next year will be there.

It is a right-hand latch, which I was pretty sure about, but when I started reading how to determine if it were a right-hand or left-hand latch, I got confused.
jsmitfl, next time you go to Ennis, if you get over our way look us up. We should still be at the Dillon KOA, unless the power problems continue . . . tired of brown-outs and blown breakers here!

Right hand vs left hand is based upon which hand you use to open it. On this door, the hinges are on the right, therefore the left hand is used to open it.

But I'm a "switch opener". I use either hand so I guess I'm weird.

I have never heard that "right hand" or "left hand" doors are determined by which hand you use to open it with. I guess the RV industry must be different than the construction side.

Whatever,
I also said that if it was hinged on the left it was a left hand door.

The new latch should be here in a day or two, and I'll let you know if I got the correct one or not!

I was told one time that it is determined by standing inside the door frame looking at the door. If the latch is on the right, it is a right hand door.

Here is how I figure right or left....put your back on the hinge side. If the door swings right, right handed, if it swings left, left handed. Had to learn for remodel projects on S&B houses when replacing doors. Has never failed me or been incorrect. Hope this helps!
