Sewer 101 for the new folks

Here was the tip of the day from RVtravel.com: http://www.rvtravel.com/?q=daily-rv-tips-issue4109179 It pretty much explains the basics of what can be happening. The only thing I would add is that you don't need some fancy flush device to add a knife valve at your outlet. Many of us have just snapped the valve (available where RV products are sold) in there and gone on our way. Here's an example of what they are and where to get them: http://www.amazon.com/Valterra-T58-T...rv+knife+valve. While I'm at it I might mention that when I'm looking for parts I try Ozz first then Camping World, Tweety's, Etrailer, Eastern Marine, Amazon and a few others. Often Amazon, not where you'd think to look, has the right part at the best price (assuming you have Prime and don't pay for shipping).

Thanks Dick. I got one of these because I believe you had mentioned it in one of your earlier posts (however, memory ain't what it used to be). It works great! I never have drips when opening the cap to drain the tanks. I have also used EBay for some purchases.

Sorry Ozz, can't get used to you being a parts house. Just getting too old, I guess.

Ha! just kidding, I was thinking about Mike and Kat's Filament free LED's.
It is nice of you to hep the newcomers out, seems like we learn the hard way too often.
I remember my first waste tank Teepee, pointy-dome, stinky pointed pile or whatever it is called. We were in South Padre at the KOA there. I was so embarrassed, I didn't ask anyone how to fix it, finally got the whole thing cleared up. Yuck... learned the hard way.

If you get the "Page Not Found" like I did, it is because of the period at the end of the provided link.

You can delete the period in your browser URL field and hit enter again, or use this one instead:

http://www.rvtravel.com/?q=daily-rv-tips-issue4109179

It would probably be better if DQDick would edit his original post and delete the period there.

Got it, Thanks! My mother was an english teacher and I can't help myself. If I ever wrote her a letter I got it back with the mistakes circled in red.

My 2013/3402 has the hose in a tube. Not sure I could use this device. Am I correct?
Thanks

warren0620 the answer to your question is MAYBE. There has been a lot of discussion about the sewer boom and adapting a shut off valve to it. Depending on where the Old World's Craftsmen placed the pivot point for the boom affects being able to use the twist on valve. I was able to use it after cutting back the length of the flexible blank plastic tube covering the hose connection (it bound up with the twist on valve installed). One thing for sure, the clear connector has to go on the end of the sewer boom hose. There isn't enough room for it where the boom connects to the sewer line.

A "Search' on sewer boom will return hours of reading material.

I installed this gate on our 2980RL with the sewer boom. After reading some of the problems others having of the overflow thought would be good insurance. Just remember to always open when connected to sewer.

This set up described does not work on my 2013 3750FL as the washing machine is a straight drain, so a sewer line must always be connected to the Monte or you can not use the washer and it does not have a shut off, so when you use the set up described and hook a water hose up as described it also push's water back up into the washing machine as your trying to flush out the black tank!

We use the shutoff valve and a 90degree clear section right out of the trailer (no flush on it since we don't need it). The 90 is then capped off when we travel. After several years I was finally convinced by folks on this forum to drop the sewer boom. For us that was a good decision.
